Steelers Sign Former Patriots TE
USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed former New England Patriots tight end Scotty Washington to their practice squad following a successful workout, according to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson.

The Steelers brought Washington in for a visit following the placement of Pat Freiermuth on Injured Reserve. Without their top tight end, the team elevated Rodney Williams from the practice squad, and are now replacing him with Washington.

Washington, who was originally undrafted out of Wake Forest, spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad before signing with the New England Patriots last season. He played five NFL games through three years in the league.

Freiermuth will need to miss at least the next three games due to a hamstring injury, but it's unknown what his timeframe for a return looks like right now.

Pittsburgh relied on Connor Heyward and Darnell Washington as their starters in Week 7, with Williams playing 19% of the snaps on offense.
