Antonio Brown, Troy Polamalu, and Marcus Gilbert will all miss the Steelers Monday Night game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but there is some hope for week 11. Pittsburgh is hosting back-to-back games for the first time in the 2012 season in weeks 10 and 11 with both games being played at Heinz Field. Week 11 is an especially important game as the Steelers will host the Baltimore Ravens, who lead the AFC North division, in the first of their two match-ups. Troy Polamalu, who has missed most of the 2012 season with a calf injury, and Marcus Gilbert, who is recovering from a high ankle sprain, are both expected to have a good chance at playing in that game against the Ravens. Antonio Brown, who suffered a mild high ankle sprain against the Giants, said he would play against the Chiefs, but will be held out to ensure he is able to play in week 11. The Steelers are scheduled to play the Ravens twice in three weeks with a second game coming in Baltimore week 13. Those two games could decide who wins the AFC North division this season. The Steelers currently stand at 5-3 a game behind the 6-2 Ravens. That means both teams hold their own destiny in the division. If either team can win both match-ups they will take control of the division and hold the all-important tie-breaker. The Ravens, however, just have to win one of the two games and keep even with the Steelers to hold a game advantage in the standings. With Marcus Gilbert out rookie tackle Mike Adams has been inserted at right tackle for the past three games. Adams struggled at times in pass protection against the Giants, but has played very well since entering the starting lineup. The run game has produced three straight games with a one-hundred yard rusher and Adams looks very strong in the run game. Will Allen has taken over for the injured Troy Polamalu replacing Ryan Mundy who initially had that responsibility. Allen has played well when he is in the game, but has left a couple of games with minor injuries. Antonio Brown’s ankle injury will likely only keep him out of the one game on Monday Night Football, but that leaves the Steelers with only three healthy receivers on the roster. To give the team some depth at receiver and at the return man position it is likely the Steelers will add David Gilreath to the roster. Antonio Brown is second on the depth chart in the return game, but with Chris Rainey battling a rib injury the Steelers may have to rely on the third man in Emmanuel Sanders. If anything happened to Sanders on Monday the Steelers would need a return man as well as a third wide-out which is where Gilreath comes in. Many fans thought Gilreath deserved to get a roster spot out of training camp, but that didn’t happen as the team decided to carry only four receivers on the 53-man roster. Gilreath has been on the practice squad and is almost guaranteed to get called up before Monday. The only remaining question is as to who gets cut from the roster to make room for him. With Ben Roethlisberger taking very few hits so far this season it is possible the Steelers could cut Charie Batch, the third quarterback on the depth chart, to make room for Gilreath. It is unlikely any other team would be willing to make room for an almost 38 year old quarterback. The Steelers could also release Demarcus Van ****, Adrian Robinson, or Alameda Ta’amu all who would have a good chance at not being claimed on waivers by another team. Batch may be the most likely candidate; however, because if he is picked up by another team they wouldn’t have to worry that they lost a young player with potential. It is also very likely that Batch doesn’t get picked up and he will be resigned to the roster after Monday Night’s game. Gilreath would then be cut and moved back to the practice squad with Batch being resigned for the rest of the season. Steelers Might Get Troy Polamalu & Marcus Gilbert Back For Ravens Game

Could the Pittsburgh Steelers possibly get safety Troy Polamalu back for the Week 11 game against the Baltimore Ravens? Judging by the Tuesday comments made by head coach Mike Tomlin during his weekly press conference, that indeed seems like a possibility. Not only could we possibly see Polamalu back in a uniform for the Ravens game, but right tackle Marcus Gilbert as well. "...

Steelers Could Add Gilreath to Roster with Antonio Brown “Very Doubtful” to Play Monday Night

Mike Tomlin announced today that Antonio Brown is “very doubtful” to play on Monday Night against the Kansas City Chiefs. Brown suffered what is being called a mild high ankle sprain and will likely be held out to make sure he can play a week later against the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens stand at 6-2 just one game ahead of the 5-3 Steelers in the AFC North division. Kansas City...

When Polamalu, Mendenhall and Gilbert Return, Who Starts?

The Steelers have been playing very good football the last three weeks with three straight wins over the Bengals, Redskins, and defending Super Bowl champion Giants. During those three contests the Steelers have been without their number one running back Rashard Mendenhall who is battling an achilles injury and is still overcoming a torn ACL suffered in week 17 of the 2011 season...

Steelers WR Brown likely out against Chiefs

The Pittsburgh Steelers will likely be without leading receiver Antonio Brown next Monday night when they host the Kansas City Chiefs. Brown sprained his right ankle in last Sunday's 24-20 victory over the New York Giants. Coach Mike Tomlin called Brown's status ''very much in doubt.'' Brown leads the Steelers with 42 receptions and is second on the team...

Clearing Up Misinformation Regarding Promotion Of Players Off The Practice Squad

A reader sent me an email question regarding my post about the Pittsburgh Steelers potential need to sign a wide receiver off of the practice squad in case Antonio Brown is unable to play next Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs. Apparently there is some misinformation floating around that is stating that the Steelers must keep a practice squad player that they promote from...

Steelers’ Antonio Brown is considered doubtful for Monday

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told the media today that wide receiver Antonio Brown is considered doubtful for next Monday night’s game against the Chiefs. Antonio Brown Doubtful For Week 10

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin announced that wide receiver Antonio Brown would likely be doubtful for Monday night’s game against the Chiefs, per Ed Bouchette. Brown sprained his ankle during Sunday’s win over the Giants. Tomlin is usually pretty straight forward about player status, so it safe to suggest that Brown is unlikely to suit up on Monday night. Emmanuel Sanders would...

Steelers Sign Former Penn State WR Derek Moye To The Practice Squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a practice squad move on Wednesday as Bob Labriola reports via Twitter that wide receiver Derek Moye has been signed and tight end Jamie McCoy has been released. The move was likely made because of the ankle injury suffered by wide receiver Antonio Brown in the 24-20 win this past Sunday over the New York Giants. Head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday...

Steelers Giants Week 9 Offensive Participation Chart

Below are the offensive player play counts and participation chart for the Pittsburgh Steelers week 9 win over the New York Giants. Player Notes: Hurray for the offensive line making it through another game without issues. The wide receiver group did have issues which led to Jerricho Cotchery receiving a lot of playing time thanks to the injury to Antonio Brown. In my opinion...

AFC North remains a two-team race

The Baltimore Ravens are 6-2 -- and appear to be completely vulnerable. The Pittsburgh Steelers are 5-3, graying and flawed but winners of three straight after being left for dead. The state of Ohio has two AFC North teams, too. All four except the Browns are now at the midway point of their respective 2012 seasons, and after this weekend all will have played nine games. The Ravens...
