There are some things you don't ask the loquacious Steve Smith after his team just lost a hard-fought home playoff game.
One reporter inquired if he'll be rooting for the Seahawks -- not the 49ers -- in next week's NFC Championship game, and ... yeah, it didn't go over so well.
"You really want me to thump you upside the head? That was the dumbest question, and that's the second dumbest question you've asked," Smith said, via NFL.com. "I only cheer for one team. Actually, two teams. My team and my kid's team. Other than that I can give a bleep."
Foot meet mouth. All that's missing was an "ice up, son!"
In more serious matters, the Panthers' veteran receiver, who finished with four catches for 74 yards and a touchdown, addressed his playing time. Smith lit it up in the first half, but went the way of Casper in the second half, hampered by a knee injury.
“They went man coverage in the first half, didn’t w...

Following yesterday’s season ending playoff loss to San Francisco at home, a reporter asked Steve Smith the wrong question. What made it wrong you may ask? Smith believed the question to be among the “dumbest” questions of all time.
See his response for yourself.
It stands to reason Smith would be in a bad mood, but this is pure media gold.

Smith didn’t shy away from media after the Panthers loss to 49ers.
Steve Smith wants to host a Super Bowl in Charlotte. "No reason we can't. Jacksonville ain't no stellar town."

The post Steve Smith to a reporter: You really want me to thump you upside the head appeared first on Pro Football Zone.
Steve Smith was not in a playful mood yesterday after the Panthers loss to the 49ers. Yesterday we brought you the quotes of him taking a shot a Jacksonville and calling the media dumb but now we got video of him saying and I quote:
“You really want me to thump you upside your head.”
Again Steve doesn’t shy away from the media.

With Steve Smith still nursing a knee injury that he suffered in the Panthers’ Week 16 win over the Saints, there’s been some doubt about whether he’d play on Sunday against the 49ers. In an attempt to put that doubt to rest, Smith posted this photo to his Instagram account with the following caption (plus a thousand hashtags):Will I play is on the question!!!! Does a zebra...
Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers was once a top wide receiver in the NFL. While he certainly is a playmaker, his production is on the decline. Despite this, he fought through a knee injury and made key plays in the first half that gave the Panthers a fighting chance.
At the end of the day, the Panthers still lost.
After working extremely hard for the entire offseason and season...
Steve Smith has very little patience for your idiotic questions, football reporters. Smith was asked after his Carolina Panthers lost to the San Francisco 49ers 23-10 on Sunday if he would be rooting for the Seattle Seahawks to beat San Francisco in the NFC Championship Game. I guess the reporter’s logic was that Smith would […]
The Panthers are getting set to host the 49ers in their first playoff game since 2008 and looking for their first postseason victory since the 2005 season. They'd love to have the receiver who's been with them through it all, 13 year veteran Steve Smith.Smith has been out since week 16 with a sprained left knee. Smith has wavered during the week, stating first he would definitely...
Sometimes, your team comes first. Carolina Panthers fans can relate to this.
That was the case for NFL fan and Pastor Tim Christensen of Gold Hill Lutheran Church in Butte, Montana. He held a one-minute service on Sunday because the Niners and Panthers were about to kick, and the video is a must see.
That’s an epic Mic Drop at the end. Steve Smith would be proud.
To see why Steve...
There was some concern as to whether or not Steve Smith (knee) would be healthy enough to be a strong factor in today’s playoff matchup between the Panthers and 49ers in Carolina. Those worries were put to rest in the first half when Smith caught this picture perfect toss from Cam Newton for a go-ahead touchdown.
And in case there was any lingering doubt…

The Carolina Panthers' exit from the playoffs means we unfortunately will be without Steve Smith for the next several months.
After suffering a painful 23-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, No. 89 was asked if he would be rooting for the Seattle Seahawks in next week's NFC Championship Game, given how chippy Sunday's clash turned out to be. Smith put the reporter in...
Watching the 49ers, Seahawks, Patriots and Broncos experience the thrill of victory with playoff wins this weekend has obviously flooded the airwaves. But what about witnessing the agony of defeat that players like Carolina’s CAM NEWTON and STEVE SMITH have to endure?
After losing to the 49ers 23-10 and clearly conflicted in terms of his emotions, Newton answered the question of...
Bottom line, 89 is gonna play. Steve Smith is active for the Panthers for Sunday's Divisional Round game against the 49ers. And he won't have to face the 49ers top corner, as Carlos Rogers is inactive.
Also inactive is Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart.
The biggest news is Smith. With him playing -- as expected -- Cam Newton gets to target his top weapon and the Panthers...
10) Troy Aikman really liked everything about a fourth and goal QB sneak that failed9) Excellent injury fake all week by Panthers WR Steve Smith, for at leas the first half8) You know it's a playoff game when the teams argue like PMSing prima donnas after every play, regardless of the number of penalties called7) It's more than a little disconcerting to see a playoff game...
