Steel City Blitz:
As this miserable 2013 season wears on, I really don’t want to start looking ahead to the NFL Draft but I think there might be reason to considering the development of several players.
Early thinking had the Pittsburgh Steelers more than likely drafting an offensive tackle in the first round.
With two games to go, I’m not so sure.
Mike Tomlin and company appear to be satisfied if not happy with what has transpired in recent weeks at the tackle position.
Kelvin Beachum has done a very nice job at left tackle throughout the season despite not always looking the part of a prototypical anchor of the offensive line.
Marcus Gilbert is a guy I owe an apology too because I’ve ripped him and his toughness many times but he matured a lot this year and has done a good job at right tackle. Mike Adams is a wild-card of course. Benched in the early season, he appears to have gotten the message and has shown improvement and more consistency when he plays.
The vibe I keep getting, and I felt it aga...
BEST OF MAXIM
The Pittsburgh Steelers have all but eliminated themselves from the playoff picture. Losing crucial games to the Baltimore Ravens and the Miami Dolphins, it would appear it’s the end of the road for the black and gold.
BUT…mathematically, the Steelers could still make the playoffs. They’ll need a prayer plus some.
Here’s what must happen for them to make the playoffs:
Yesterday, the Steelers announced they placed outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley on injured reserve. Woodley’ last three seasons of his career have been filled with injuries. He only recorded a combined total of nine sacks in his last two seasons. That number falls short of his entire total in 2011 of 10 sacks.
Woodley’s injury woes started...
The Pittsburgh Steelers have released their first injury report of the week for the upcoming game Sunday at Lambeau Filed against the Green Bay Packers and it includes no real surprises.
Wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery (shoulder), safety Troy Polamalu (not injury related) and tight end Heath Miller (not injury related) did not practice on Wednesday. Both Polamalu and Miller will...
This is the time of year when teams are likely to poach players off of the practice squads of others and it happened to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday.
According to the official NFL transaction report, the Chicago Bears have signed tackle Joe Long to their 53 man roster off of the Steelers practice squad.
Long has been on the Steelers practice squad since late last season....
On Wednesday, a report surfaced that Pittsburgh Steelers rookie linebacker Terence Garvin has been fined $25,000 for his Sunday night hit on Cincinnati Bengals punter Kevin Huber. Being as Garvin only makes roughly $23,823.00 a week, he will likely appeal it and get it reduced down to 5955.75.
In case you are curious, the CBA has rules in place that restricts fines to a percentage...
Prior to Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley being placed on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday, head coach Mike Tomlin was asked to describe his play when he has been healthy.
"He's been solid, not only this season, but over the course of his career," said Tomlin. "But obviously, particularly in recent years, he's had to battle some...
Pittsburgh linebacker Terence Garvin has been fined $25,000 for his hit on Cincinnati punter Kevin Huber in the Steelers' victory over the Bengals on Sunday night.
Huber sustained a broken jaw and a cracked vertebrae when Garvin decked him near midfield during Antonio Brown's 67-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Garvin was not penalized on the play. Huber lay still on the...
On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to place linebacker LaMarr Woodley on injured reserve after he suffered another calf injury early in the Sunday night win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Woodley, who had earlier in the season injured his left calf, suffered a right calf injury Sunday night while attempting to knock down a screen pass from Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton with...
Season 4, Episode 59 of The Terrible Podcast is up and co-host David Todd and I talk about the decision made Tuesday by the Pittsburgh Steelers to place linebacker LaMarr Woodley on injured reserve. This of course leads to us beating more dead calves and again spills over to talk about Jason Worilds. We warned you that this would be a hot talking point for a while.
We move on eventually...
According to WLWT in Cincinnati, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Terence Garvin has been fined $25,000 by the NFL for Sunday’s hit on Cincinnati Bengals punter Kevin Huber.
The first quarter hit on Huber happened on the punt return by Antonio Brown for a touchdown but was not flagged.
On Tuesday, NFL head of officials Dean Blandino said on NFL Total Access that Garvin should have...
As the Steelers prepare to face off against the Packers this week, Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin stated that it was “an easy decision for me” to draft Le’Veon Bell over Eddie Lacy who ended falling to the Packers in the second round.
Tomlin admitted that Lacy is “top-nothc,” but they wre sold on Bell’s versatility that can catch...
According to an ESPN report, the NFL has reportedly fined Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Terence Garvin $25,000 for his monstrous hit on Cincinnati Bengals punter Kevin Huber that left Huber with a broken jaw and cracked vertebrae.
Both Garvin and the Steelers expected a fine for the hit that ended Huber’s season and Garvin is expected to appeal the fine. Garvin said he did not...
