When Percy Harvin was taken off the active roster for the Seahawks after a hip injury that required surgery in late July, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell was left without his star player. Although playing professional football comes along with an occasional injury, Harvin’s versatility allowed them to take pressure off star running back Marshawn Lynch who led the NFL in carries in 2012.
A similar case can be made for Terps’ sophomore wide receiver, Stefon Diggs, who was required to relieve the entire offense of pressure in 2012 when Maryland was inflicted with injuries. At one point, the Terps even had to use a linebacker as a quarterback in order for them to complete the last two months of the season. Diggs managed to lead the team in targets and recorded over 1,000 yards in total offense passing and rushing.
Although the Terps will be back at full health and have a new offensive coordinator for the 2013-14 season, Diggs is still expected to lead the team in stats and make big plays that rely purely on his athleticism.
