Kevin Colbert and the Steelers took a big risk putting a first round tender on Mike Wallace.  Any team could have signed him to an offer sheet that the Steelers could not match.  All they had to do was front load the deal.  The Steelers knew that and took the chance anyways.

As of right now that risk paid off.  Wallace made that easy on teams as he was asking for Larry Fitzgerald money.  Teams were not going to give up a first and pay that price.  So, Mike Wallace is a Steeler this season unless traded.  It is past the 4 pm deadline for restricted free agents to sign deals with other teams.  Wallace has no other option but to join the team or hold out.

If Wallace decides to hold out it can not be for long.  As of June 15th the Steelers can take the $2.74 million they were going to pay Wallace as a RFA and cut it down to $577k.  Wallace can miss practice for the next few months but he will not take the chance of losing over $2 million dollars.  Even if he is unhappy he will not let that money get away.

The final fate of Wallace will be known after the 2012 NFL Draft.  Teams are interested in Wallace for a price cheaper than a first round pick.  If the Steelers choose to listen Wallace could end up elsewhere.  It is something that I doubt will happen but is still possible.
