Found March 19, 2013 on Football Extra Points:
The Steelers moved on from Mike Williams and I think it was the right decision.  There are plenty of receivers that will be available in the middle of the first round and in the second and third rounds of this draft.  They can grab someone early or late and save some money. 1 Kansas City - Eric Fisher, OT 2 Jacksonville - Luke Joeckel, OT 3 Oakland - Sharrif Floyd, DT 4 Philadelphia -  Star Latulelei, DT 5 Detroit - Dion Jordon, OLB 6 Cleveland - Dee Milliner, CB 7 Arizona - Geno Smith, QB 8 Buffalo - Matt Barkley, QB 9 New York Jets - Jarvis Jones, OLB 10 Tennessee - Bjoern Werner, DE 11 San Diego - Lane Johnson, OT 12 Miami - Chance Warmack, OG 13 Tampa Bay - Sheldon Richardson, DT 14 Carolina - Barkevious Mingo, OLB/DE 15 New Orleans - Ezekiel Ansah, DE 16 St. Louis - Cordarrelle Patterson, WR 17 Pittsburgh - Keenan Allen, WR 18 Dallas - Johnathan Cooper, OG 19 New York Giants - Alec Ogletree, LB 20 Chicago -...
1 Comment:
  • I would like the Steelers to take Kenny Vaccaro, but I really like Alec Ogletree. Alec's off the field issues is going to have the Steelers wonder, but his talent will be rewarded. There is enough talent at the WR position in the draft where they can grab Hunter in the second round.

Steelers LB Jason Worilds Chomping At The Bit To Prove He Can Replace James Harrison

When the Pittsburgh Steelers released linebacker James Harrison over a week ago, it left a void on the right side of the defense that fourth-year linebacker Jason Worilds will be asked to fill in 2013. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who is currently in Arizona for the annual NFL owners' meetings, commented Sunday on the opportunity that awaits the 2010 second-round draft pick...

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin Talks Offensive Line At Owners’ Meeting

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin spoke to the media on Tuesday at the annual owners' meetings and was asked about the possible use of more zone blocking in 2013. "Something we're going to explore, said Tomlin," via a report by Bob Labriola on Twitter. "Not going to move too far from what guys are capable of doing." It's not like the...

Does This Steelers’ Offense Scare You?

As the snowflakes fall on what the calendar says is supposed to be the first day of Spring, I can’t help but take stock of other things in life. You know? Death and taxes and what the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starting offense will look like on opening day of the 2013 season…. The usual things one might ponder this time of year. In all seriousness, have you really thought about...

Translating Tomlin’s Comments on the Steelers

The National Football League Owners are meeting out in Phoenix, Arizona in what can only be described as a ‘meeting of really rich old white guys.’ Well, it is! Also at these meetings are team general managers and head coaches and that means the Pittsburgh Steelers head man Mike Tomlin is there enjoying the weather if nothing else. Tomlin spoke to media this morning and while...

Steelers Interested In Long And Dummervil? Really?

Over the last few days the Pittsburgh Steelers have been reported as having interest in former Denver Broncos defensive end/outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil and current St. Louis Rams tackle Jake Long. While these reports certainly get the Steelers fan base excited, you have to wonder how much water that these reports hold. Face it, the Steelers are working with very limited cap...

Steelers reportedly made a run at Jake Long

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Pittsburgh Steelers tried to make a move to land left tackle Jake Long before he ended up signing with the Rams. I’m not sure where the Steelers would get the money to pay Long, since they’re only roughly $3 million over the cap right now.  But it was a great idea.   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script...

Steelers sign TE Matt Spaeth

Matt Spaeth is coming back to Pittsburgh. The Steelers signed the free agent tight end on Monday, reuniting Spaeth with the club that selected him in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft. The 29-year-old Spaeth spent his first four seasons with the Steelers before moving on to Chicago, where he caught just 13 passes for 78 yards and three touchdowns in 31 games. Pittsburgh needs...

Steelers Receive Sixth Round Compensatory Pick In The 2013 NFL Draft

The 2013 NFL compensatory draft picks were announced on Monday at the annual NFL owners' meeting and the Pittsburgh Steelers received a sixth-round compensatory pick for their loss of cornerback William Gay to the Arizona Cardinals during the free agency signing period last off-season. The picks is the 38th in the sixth round and the 206th overall. Even though the Steelers...

Mike Tomlin Says The Read Option Is Just ‘The Flavor Of The Month’

Mike Tomlin isn’t a believer in the read option scheme that has taken the league by storm, and turned the QB position on its head. The two time winning Superbowl coach is anything but sold on the option play, compared to traditional pocket play. As reported by USA Today Tomlin said the following while at a Tuesday media session for AFC coaches at the NFL Owners’ meeting: ...

Report: Steelers Have No Plans To Bring In Free Agent RB Ahmad Bradshaw

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Sunday that the Pittsburgh Steelers have interest in former New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw. Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, however, reports on Monday via Twitter that the Steelers have no plans right now to bring in Bradshaw, per a team source of his. As I pointed out in my previous post about Bradshaw, he has several medical...

Jets G Willie Colon Has A Big-Ass Chip On His Shoulder After Being Released By The Steelers

Here is a report that we think we can trust. Rich Cimini of ESPN New York reports on Twitter Tuesday that former Pittsburgh Steelers guard Willie Colon, who signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets recently, is not too happy with the way that things went down with the Steelers. "I do have a big-ass chip on my shoulder," said Colon, when asked to talk about his release...

2012 Grades, Position by Position, Special Teams

Special teams is the middle child of the football world. No, that’s not right. It’s the red-headed step-child. No one shows special teams any respect, and yet when a game is on the line, it is often the kicker who is relied upon to come up with the game-winning field goal. It is often the punter who is put in a position to pin the opponent deep in their own territory, shifting...

Mike Tomlin Says Read-Option Offense is ‘Flavor of the Month,’ Feels It Could Fizzle Out Like Wildcat

The read-option offense took off in 2012 behind the phenomenal play of quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick, Robert Griffin III and Russell Wilson. But while some coaches likely stayed up long nights this offseason preparing to defend it, one coach isn’t quite sold. Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the offensive scheme at the NFL Annual Meeting on Tuesday, saying he...
