In the NFL, GMs value draft picks extremely highly.  Moreso, probably, than they should.  This past offseason, Asante Samuel was traded for a 7th round pick. Now, Samuel has his limitations, and is not a particularly strong tackler, but he's one of the better corners in the league. Last season, only Darelle Revis had a better (lower) opposing quarterback passer rating when throwing at him. He's a starter in this league, and a pretty darn good one. He's worth more than a 7th rounder, which on average is a training camp cut or special teams player (if you're lucky).  Brandon Marshall, a Pro-Bowl wide receive, a number one WR in the league and a proven weapon, was traded out of Miami for two third round picks, one in 2012 and one in 2013. The move instantly made Chicago one of the most trendy darkhorse picks for the 2012 season. Marshall has off the field issues, and had a down season in Miami (but still had over 80 catches and 1000 yards), but is a dynamic receiver ...

Indianapolis Colts Acquire CB Vontae Davis: Major Upgrade or Waste of Picks?

The Indianapolis Colts acquired former 1st round corner back Vontae Davis from the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. I, like nearly everyone else, has been predicting that the Colts would make a move via trade to help shore up their secondary. This maybe wasn’t quite the move we had been expecting however. The biggest thing Colts fans have to wonder: Is this the major upgrade the secondary...

Colts new cornerback eager to get fresh start

Vontae Davis couldn't wait to get started in Indianapolis. After leaving rain-soaked Florida, the new Colts cornerback made it to town Monday and quickly told reporters he wanted to leave the past in Miami. On Sunday, the Colts sent two draft picks, including a second-rounder in 2013, to Miami to acquire the four-year veteran. For Davis, it marks the end of a stormy time in...

Colts originally offered a 5th and 6th for Vontae Davis

Earlier this week, the Dolphins sent Vontae Davis to the Colts for a 2nd and 6th round pick. However, according to the Palm Beach Post and confirmed on the recent episode of Hard Knocks, the Colts originally offered just a 5th and 6th round pick for Davis, before eventually being negotiated up to a 2nd and 6th round pick. Getting Davis for just a 5th and 6th round pick would have...

Colts trade for Vontae Davis

Colts’ owner Jim Irsay said on twitter recently that the team was going to make a big move, and they did just that by trading for Dolphins’ corner back Vontae Davis. Davis had fallen out of favor with the Dolphins, and was acquired by the Colts for the price of a second round pick and a conditional sixth rounder. The Colts badly needed to shore up their defense, and if Davis...

Vontae Traded to Colts

So much for Vontae Davis ever fulfilling his immense potential with the Dolphins. The Dolphins announced Sunday afternoon they have traded the 2009 first-round pick to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a pair of choices in the 2013 draft.

Colts Trade For Dolphins CB Vontae Davis

Finally after days of reading tweets from Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay about a potential trade that was possibly going to down this weekend, his club finally pulled the trigger on a trade that will bring Miami Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis to the Colts in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft according to a report by NFL.com. Davis is a former first...

Jim Irsay's Twitter Talk Leads to Colts Trading for Dolphins Cornerback Vontae Davis

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts may have plugged their biggest hole on defense by trading two undisclosed draft picks to Miami for cornerback Vontae Davis. The Dolphins confirmed the move Sunday afternoon. The move ends a weekend full of speculation. Team owner Jim Irsay started the discussion Thursday night when he posted several messages on Twitter indicating the Colts were...

Source: Dolphins trade Davis to Colts

Jim Irsay showed his cards for days on Twitter and his prediction proved true Sunday: The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to trade a 2013 second-round pick for Miami Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis, FOXSports.com has learned. Davis, the 25th overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft, fills a glaring need for the Colts, who need a starting CB to play opposite Jarraurd Powers. A standout...

Scouting Report: Asante Samuel

Last week, I started things with scouting Sean Weatherspoon. Now it’s time to look at the Falcons only major pre-draft off-season addition still with the team: Asante Samuel, and what skills he brings to the table in 2012. Pros: Samuel is an instinctual cover corner with good ball skills, awareness, and excellent anticipation. Does a good job challenging throws when he...

2012 NFL Presesaon: Dolphins and Colts Execute Surprising Trade

When Colts' owner Jim Irsay tweeted that "TRADE WINDS (are) BLOWING!!!" earlier this week, it wasn't too big of a surprise. Irsay often appears to a monthly quota of semi-incomprehensible tweets to fill, and he had spent a good deal of time mostly out of the spotlight. It was about time for Irsay to grab some headlines. Far more surprising was the actual trade...

Are the Dolphins sabotaging themselves?

Every once in a while, we have teams that seem to implode once they're eliminated from the playoff race. Those types of implosions raise questions about the team's intent, but they ultimately fade away once the playoffs begin. Now, the Dolphins are causing some, including players on their own team, to question their motives in 2012. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk...
