The Bears have had some of their most notable draft busts in the last 25 years. Among those busts, there have been multiple defensive ends that’ve underwhelmed, from Alonzo Spellman to John Thierry. But the biggest is bust is former first round pick Michael Haynes. Haynes was drafted in the first round and 14th overall by the Bears in 2003. He was drafted eight spots ahead of another legendary bust, Rex Grossman. Haynes was taken largely due to his senior season at Penn State, when he totaled 15 sacks, 23 tackles for loss, 80 tackles and was named Big Ten Defensive Player-of-the-Year. Unfortunately for Chicago, he never produced at the next level. In three seasons with the Bears, Haynes started a whopping four games. In that same span he had 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one interception which he returned for a touchdown. Before the start of the 2006 season Haynes was cut by the Bears. He was picked up by the Saints and released after one game. On August 31, 2007 he was signed by the Jets. He was released the next day. Haynes was drafted ahead of two standouts from the last decade in Charles Tillman and Lance Briggs. Clearly Haynes’ talent was overestimated due to his inflated senior season.   You may also be interested in:The worst defensive end in Bears historyMAILBAG: Bears make a mistake with Henry Melton?Bears Hall of Fame defensive end is the best
