Obviously the headline is a joke, but with how extensive the media covers Tim Tebow, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the many football analysts suggested the notion. A valid argue would be that Tebow has already mastered the art of keeping the football away from wide receivers.

Following the conclusion of New York’s overtime win against Miami, I took to social media to find many Jets fans jumping ship on the 2012 season because they had lost their star corner for the season to an ACL injury. While Revis has arguably been one of the best defensive backs in the NFL, one player won’t determine a team’s success.

The Jets and their fans can take note of that from the very team they share MetLife Stadium with. The Giants defensive backs are dropping like flies this year, yet the defensive unit, as a whole remains strong. Like the Giants, the Jets have a very good defensive front, and a deep defensive backfield. Although they lost there best player the defensive unit, in my opinion will remain solid throughout 2012.

The real problem for the Jets rests solely on the shoulders of Mark Sanchez. Rex Ryan has remained adamant about Sanchez being the starter in New York despite trading for Tim Tebow. In week 1 Sanchez looked masterful, completing 70-percent of his passes, and throwing 3 touchdowns will only one interception. In week 2 Sanchez threw for a pitiful 138 yards, completing only 37-percent of his passes.

From week 1 against Buffalo to week 2 against Pittsburgh Sanchez saw his QBR drop nearly 51 points from 97.1 to 46.5, and in week 3 against the Dolphins that trend continued. Sanchez may have thrown for a season high 306 yards but he completed on 47-percent of his passes and threw 2 interceptions.

The fact of the matter is, a team’s success often is determined from the play of the quarterback, especially now in a pass heavy league. The Jets may be 2-1, but those were 2 games against far weaker opponents that should have been won. Sanchez is going to have to be more consistent and make smarter decisions when the Jets play a higher caliber team. Jets fans, enjoy the feeling of first place in the AFC East now while you’ve got it.
