PITTSBURGH - SEPTEMBER 10: Safety Troy Polamalu #43 of the Pittsburgh Steelers gets a penalty for holding the face mask of tight end Bo Scaife #80 of the Tennessee Titans during the second quarter of the NFL season opener at Heinz Field on September 10, 2009 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. On Tuesday, Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu was a guest on the Dan Patrick Show and he was predictably asked about the Sunday loss to the New England Patriots in which the defense gave up a franchise record 610 net yards of offense and 55 points. Polamalu, who had one of the worst games of his career, had a much more positive outlook than he did immediately following the loss. "We've looked at the film," said Polamalu. "There's obviously a lot that we can get better at. We played like a 2-5 team at that point, but fortunately for us, all of the corrections are makeable. It's not a like a talent, so we'll see if we're able to respond correctly." Polamalu, who is currently in his 11th season and under contract through the 2014 season, was later asked by Patrick if he knows how many more years he will play. "I don't know," said Polamalu. "I'm asked that question quite frequently and my response is always, when you live day to day, it's hard to talk years." As far as his play goes this year, head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday during his press conference that he has no plans to limit what Polamalu has done well for so many years. "Troy has a unique skill set. We need that skill set to do a variety of things for us," Tomlin said. "Obviously he didn’t play as well as he would have liked or we would have liked in the last football game. But we’re not going to have a knee-jerk reaction to that performance. "He’ll continue to play safety for us, continue to play linebacker for us. He’ll continue to play deep, he’ll continue to play in the box and blitz as well. He’s done that for us in this league for a long time. We look for him to continue to do it." Polamalu will get a chance to rebound Sunday against the Buffalo Bills and rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel, who will make his first start since suffering a LCL sprain back in early October. If you missed Patrick's interview with Polamalu, you can listen to it below.
