Two big reasons why the Seahawks could trade for Micah Parsons

The Dallas Cowboys’ continuous habit of putting themselves in the media spotlight might result in a consequence. Four-time Pro-Bowl edge rusher Micah Parsons has issued a trade request amid his desire for a contract extension, putting the team in a precarious position with the disgruntled star.

While it is more likely that the Cowboys eventually give Parsons his extension, there is a reason to believe that the relationship between the edge rusher and owner Jerry Jones is broken beyond repair. If a trade to another team were to happen, the Seattle Seahawks should be a team to watch for.

One reason the Seahawks could make the move happen is arguably the biggest: they can pay Parsons. Seattle heads into August with the sixth-highest available salary cap in the league at $34.677 million. It also has the second-lowest current active spending at $178.6 million.

Parsons looks likely to get north of T.J. Watt’s new deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers at $41 million a year. At 26 years old and already accounting for 52.5 sacks in four seasons, Parsons has shown he deserves the money.

Another reason that makes the Seahawks an ideal team for Parsons is a familiar coach who helped turn Parsons into an elite-tier defender. Among the first hires of the Mike Macdonald era in Seattle was former Cowboys defensive line coach Aden Durde. He was the Cowboys’ defensive line from 2021-23.

Shortly after Durde was hired as the Seahawks’ defensive coordinator, someone reached out to Parsons on X to ask what he thought of the hire. Parsons responded, “I love Aden. I hope to someday reunite with him! Maybe in Seattle.”

There isn't a reason to believe that the Cowboys will trade one of their top players despite having contract extension issues. But if the partnership truly is broken beyond repair, the Seahawks could make a push for Parsons, which is certainly an exciting prospect for Seahawks fans. Those same fans should be worried about the potential asking price for Parsons, however, as they were previously burned by the Jamal Adams trade in 2020. That trade cost the Seahawks two first-round picks to the New York Jets.

As the Parsons saga unfolds, the Seahawks certainly feel like a team to watch.
