With the Patriots and Giants set to square off in the Super Bowl, I didn’t have much of a choice when it came to the Video of the Week… Eli Manning to David Tyree in Super Bowl XLII was one of the greatest plays in the history of football, and I hope there will be more magic like this play this year.

Although the Patriots are not undefeated this year, they will be favorites to win behind Tom Brady’s arm. However, should we expect the Giants to pull off an upset just like they did one year ago?

Just like this year, the Patriots made the Super Bowl because of Tom Brady’s arm. At that time Randy Moss was one of the top receivers in the league, while Welker has been one of the NFL’s best this year. The Pats also had a strong back with long hair (Laurence Maroney) and this year have the same style runner in Benjarvus Green-Ellis. Although the Pats had a stronger D in 08, they have key defensive players in Vince Wilfork, Jerod Mayo, and Kyle Arrington. The biggest difference between this year’s Pats and in 2008 is the production at Tight End. Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez have caused opposing defenses fits all year and should prove to be problematic for the Giants.

The Giants have a very similar team as well, as their main success comes from the defensive line and applying pressure. Jason Pierre-Paul, Osi Umenyiora, and Justin Tuck give opposing quarterbacks nightmares. The G-Men also have strong, athletic receivers again in Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz. They still feature the same two-headed monster at running back, with Bradshaw being much more involved this year. As for Eli, he has only gotten better and as much as I hate to admit it, he is an elite quarterback.

This game is sure to be a good one, and I’m hoping for another lifetime moment like Tyree’s catch.
