The San Francisco 49ers took the Minnesota Vikings too school on Sunday night. Let's take a look at 5 things we learned in the final meaningful preseason game. Colin Kaepernick was the right choice at QB for the 49ersKaepernick marched the 49ers down the field with 6 straight completions in his second drive sealing the deal with a touchdown pass to Quinton Patton that gave San Francisco a 10-0 lead and showing that coach Harbaugh made the right decision to close the door on Alex Smith and ride Kaepernick into the future.Kaepernick finished the game with a 95.7 passer rating and 5.5 yards per attempt against the Vikings first team defense, showing that he is the present and future for this 49ers team. Christian Ponder has a lot to prove Christian Ponder has been anointed the starting QB for the Vikings, but he still has yet to show that he has the ability to take the team to the next level. Ponder gave up a critical fumble in the first Vikings drive, and didn't really take the reigns until the second quarter. As a third year QB, it's all sink or swim for Ponder this season as the Vikings have given him additional weapons with Greg Jennings and rookie Cordarrelle Patterson at the WR position. Fans of the Vikings have to hope that the coaches are keeping all of the cards close to the vest in the preseason with opening road games against the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears to start the season. Lavelle Hawkins needs to real it in Lavelle Hawkins flashed brightly in the game for the 49ers with a 105 yard kickoff return, and a nice 22 yard reception in the 4th quarter, but he also managed to get 3 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties on the 2 plays, costing his team valuable field position. The kid has great talent, but if he can't figure out that his shenanigans won't play in the NFL he will spend more time in Harbaugh's doghouse than on the field. Adrian Peterson will destroy Detroit in Week 1 Anyone who looked into the eyes of AP on the sidelines after 2 plays not touching the ball on Sunday night will understand that he will come out of the gate with something to prove. Peterson has made it no secret that he has an eye on 2,500 rushing yards this season, and the Vikings coaching staff has made sure that he is 100% ready to go for week one.Look for Peterson to look to make a statement in the first game of the regular season as he finally gets the ball in live game action. This guy is on a mission this season to solidify his place in the hall of fame. Colt McCoy makes a solid bid for the #2 in San Francisco Earlier in the week, rumor had it that the 49ers were looking to trade McCoy, but a solid performance of 11 for 15 and 7.3 yards per attempt gave McCoy the leg up on the backup spot. McCoy has the ability to hold in the pocket, but he has also shown the ability to run, which just might keep him in cardinal and gold this season.
