In 2005 the Green Bay Packers signed a completely unknown running back to their practice squad. Little did the Packer faithful know at the time that this Nigerian-American product would soon be a household name and fan favorite among Packer fans. Just two weeks after being signed to the practice squad, Samkon Gado was forced into action when Ahman Green and Najeh Davenport were both lost to season ending injuries. On October 30, 2005 Gado made his NFL debut, rushing just one time for eight yards as the Packers lost to the Cincinnatti Bengals. Over the next several weeks Gado showed he had what it takes to be a starting running back in the NFL. He won rookie of the week honors twice, set the single game rushing record for the franchise with 171 yards against the Detroit Lions, and was admired for how humble he was in interviews and to the media. It was reported that after scoring his first NFL touchdown against the Steelers he walked up and thanked each member of the offensive line for allowing him to score. He became the feel good story of the 2005 season. Unfortunately Gado suffered a sprained MCL that landed him on season ending injured reserve, and he would never suit up for the Packers again. Gado played for the Texans in 2006, then was shipped to the Dolphins in 2007, and finished up his short career in the NFL with the Rams and Titans. So, where is Samkon Gado now? He’s back in school, that’s where. Gado’s father was a doctor, and it was always Samkon’s dream to follow in his footsteps. Shortly after his career in the NFL ended, he enrolled in The Medical University of South Carolina. When he graduates, Gado wants to become a medical missionary for his native country of Nigeria. Gado was a small running back with a short stint in a Packers uniform, but he always had a big heart. That heart is still with him today as he receives his education and begins his journey of giving back to those less fortunate than him.   Ted Thompson to be an active member of free agency?
