I have tried to avoid this subject except for brief moments. I think I was pretty clear that the Jets should trade Darrelle Revis, not because he is a pain about his contract or that every two years he is crying about about he has a bad contract and gets no respect. The Jets should trade Revis simply because he is one of the few assets they have that will help them address other needs more pressing than Revis. I am Jet fan always have been, I seen them at their best and worse. There are times when they haven’t been fair to a player, there are times when a player wasn’t dealt with fairly and the Jets either traded him or cut him. But in this case I believe the Jets need to cut bait with Revis. He needs to understand it isn’t that they don’t think you can’y play. Far From it. There are holes on this team an few draft picks that the team has that can fill those holes. The Jets just cut Bart Scott, they can’t trade Tebow for anything of value, Sanchez is making too much for any team to be interested, Santonio Holmes missed the season due to injury and teams were not banging on the Jets door to get him when he wasn’t hurt. Dustin Keller is looking at free agency and the Jets have to decide if they are going to sign him especially if they are starting Mark Sanchez at QB this season. So as it stands right now the Jets biggest needs are at Offensive line, Wide receiver, Running Back as well as quarterback and that is on offense. On defense, they seriously need a pass rusher and need to tighten up the safety position and need to resign LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell. The best way in a ideal world for the Jets to address those areas is to go out and get rid of all their dead wood and get those players that they need and fill their holes. But that isn’t how it works. The Jets have to score big in the draft and in free agency. Since they are in salary cap hell and have to make more cuts, they are left with fewer options …one of the few is trading Revis. In a trade with the right team the Jets can address their needs on both sides of the ball quicker, than if they hold on to Revis. So yes the 49ers do have what the Jets need to make it happen, yes Revis has said he’d love to go to the 49ers, yes Harbaugh is a defense first guy so having Revis would make them a lock in the NFC. So why are some people so against this deal from happening? The New GM of the Jets is in a tough spot. He didn’t create this mess, the previous GM Mike Tannebaum did. But this is why he gets paid the big bucks as they say. It’s a spot I don’t envy him at all in. He could be in a lose/lose spot, but he has to make this is win win for the Jets now and going forward. So if I were him the phone call should be made if it hasn’t already to SanFrancisco and make that happen.
