There's no question at all that the New York Jets offense had an abysmal 2012 season. With no run support, and no leader at the helm, the Jets offense failed to do it's job, finishing 30th in the league. This causes fans to believe that utilizing the 9th overall pick on an offensive player is the way to go. It isn't. The 2013 Offensive Draft Class is weak. There isn't a complete void of players, but for long term success, the Jets should keep any offensive picks past the first round. Big names come to mind: Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, etc. Still, gems on offense will hang around in later rounds. Think of Marcus Lattimore, the South Carolina Gamecock who suffered an injury that could've ended his career before it began. Lattimore is most likely a Day 3 selection; one that could pay huge dividends for the team that drafts him, should he recover well. Defense needs more help than it may seem. The Jets defense has earned the reputation of being one of the best defenses in the league. Pro Bowlers like Revis, Cromartie, and Landry gave us that. Unfortunately, Landry is no longer with the Jets, as well as co-safeties Yerimiah Bell and Eric Smith, leaving three empty spots on the roster. The safety position may need to be filled with a first round pick. Jet fans are also still waiting on their toes for Revis trade news. Will he stay or will he go? For the most part, fans are uncomfortable with Kyle Wilson entering a larger role on the defense. The cornerback position may also be something to look at, at 9. Finally, linebacker and defensive end positions may need to be filled. Most mocks have the likes of Dion Jordan and Barkevious Mingo going to Gang Green, or at least on their radar. I wouldn't mind if one of these "monsters" come onto the 2013 Jet squad. The 2014 Draft Class will be 'bigger and better.' With the lack of offensive weapons in this year's draft class, next year's is looking to be a bit more promising. Everyone in the football world wants to know whether Heisman Trophy winner, Johnny Manziel, will forego NCAA eligibility and join the draft class or not. Add his name to others, such as DE Jadeveon Clowney, QB A.J. McCarron, and QB Aaron Murray, and you have yourself an already impressive group.
