The Norfolk Admirals of the AHL won their 17th straight game last night and became the first team in the league to clinch a playoff berth.  This ties them for the record for the longest win streak in the history of the league (a 76 year history) with the Philadelphia Phantoms in 2004/05.  Norfolk is the Tampa Bay Lightning minor league affiliate.  This streak is what has catapulted the Admirals into first place in the league.  They now have a seven point lead over the league.  The streak is unlikely in part because number one goalie Dustin Tokarski was called up to the NHL when Mathieu Garon suffered an injury.  They changed goaltenders mid-stream to Jaroslav Janus with no change in their results.  At this point Norfolk has to be considered the favorite to win the Calder Cup.
