The Milwaukee Admirals closed out their pre-season schedule with a 3-1 loss to the Chicago Wolves at the Kern Center on the campus of the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The game came on the heels of a 3-2 shootout loss at Rockford on Thursday night.

The Wolves got on the board twice within 1:33 midway through the 2nd period. Former Admiral Mark Matheson blasted a shot from the point that beat Magnus Hellberg, and Jordan Schroeder followed just over a minute later to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. After a goalie change, Schroeder follwed that up with a second goal with under four minutes to play in the 2nd period beating Admirals netminder Jeremy Smith.

The lone goal for the home squad was scored by Ben Ryan, with assists going to Jack MacLellan and Andrew Bouvet-Morrisette. Ryan banged home a rebound on a shot by MacLellan past Wolves goalkeeper Eddie Lack, to bring the Admirals within 3-1, but the Wolves held on to win by the two goal margin.

The Admirals lines looked like this for the most part tonight:

Austin Watson-Chris Mueller-Gabriel Bourque
Michael Latta-Mark Van Guilder-Josh Shalla
Kevin Henderson-Cam Reid-Daniel Bang
Ben Ryan-Jack MacLellan-Andre Bouvet-Morrisette

Anthony Bitetto-Jon Blum
Mattias Ekholm-Charles-Olivier Roussel
Mike Moore-Taylor Aronson

Magnus Hellberg stopped 10 of 12, Jeremy Smith stopped 5 of 6.

Not a lot of standouts that I saw tonight, but here are some of my thoughts on people that stood out:

Gabriel Bourque - goodness it was nice to see him flying around and throwing his body around. You can tell the NHL raised his level of play

Michael Latta - not afraid to mix it up, had a couple decent chances, I think he's gonna have a breakout year

Cam Reid - really surprised how well he handled himself tonight. Would love to see him stick, but might get squeezed due to the numbers game

Mattias Ekholm - showed why he was one of the last guys cut by Nashville last year. Very solid, and a rocket shot that broke the mask of Eddie Lack

Jon Blum - ugh....really disappointed in his play tonight. After hearing how he spent the summer in Nashville, I hoped he would be better than he was. Terrible giveaways, unable to clear the zone or hold the zone, couple shots that went wide, and being beat a few times....not impresssed.

Magnus Hellberg - Scandanavian, tall goalie, wearing 35....where have I seen this before? He may have wanted both goals back, but was still solid
