With 1:27 remaining in their game against the Anaheim Ducks, and trailing 4-3, Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau called timeout to draw up how his team might go about tying the game in order to send it to overtime.  Surprisingly, Boudreau’s plans didn’t include resident superstar Alexander Ovechkin. Ovie clearly didn’t care for being left on the bench to sit and watch his teammates try and tie things up against the Ducks, and as the Boudreau makes his way past the Washington captain, Ovechkin can be seen muttering the phrase “fat f–k,” a derogatory remark most obviously aimed at his coach and his ample size. Video follows the jump… The Caps went on to knot things up at 4-4 on a Nikolas Backstrom goal, then grabbed the OT win on another goal by Backstrom at 2:18 of the extra frame, making Boudreau’s decision to sit his best player the right one, this time at least.

Caps' Ovechkin upset with move, but supports it

Two-time league MVP Alex Ovechkin says he was upset when he was left on the bench for the final moments of regulation in the Washington Capitals' come-from-behind 5-4 win over Anahiem. But Ovechkin says he also understands why coach Bruce Boudreau did it. Boudreau sent out another line - without Ovechkin - after pulling the goalie with a one-goal deficit in Tuesday night'...

Capitals Pull A Rabbit Out of the Hat to Beat the Ducks in Overtime

Several weeks ago, after his team beat Georgia, South Carolina’s football coach Steve Spurrier said that sometimes the team that plays the best game doesn’t win.  That was clearly the case last evening at the Verizon Center.  The Anaheim Ducks, in the middle of a seven game road swing, clearly outplayed the Capitals for at least 45 of the 60 minutes of regulation, yet ended...

Alex Ovechkin drops F-bomb on Capitals coach

Alex Ovechkin wasn't thrilled about not being on the ice in the waning minutes of Tuesday night's game against the Anaheim Ducks. Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau justified sitting him by saying that he didn't think Ovechkin would score the tying goal. Weird thought seeing as though Ovie has scored 50+ goals in three of the past four seasons. What'd Ovie think of...

Ovi Concerned About Boudreau's Waistline?

Oh, Ovi. The Caps 5-4 overtime win on Tuesday after being down 3-0 was pretty spectacular. Unfortunately, today’s headlines are focused on Ovechkin and his apparent potty mouth. After sub-par play from the Caps’ captain, Bruce Boudreau decided to bench Ovi for the final minute of regulation. The result was a game-tying goal by Nicklas Backstrom and a clearly upset Ovechkin...

Let's Watch Alex Ovechkin, Benched Late In Regulation, Call His Coach A "Fat ****"

Your morning roundup for Nov. 2, the day you wouldn't dare touch our Halloween candy if you knew what was up. Video of Ovechkin, which gets good at the 53-second mark, via Got any stories or photos for us? Tip your editors. <a href="****" title...

Alexander Ovechkin Calls His Head Coach a "Fat F--k"

A very accurate description. Well said, Alexander.

Boudreau says he never benched Ovechkin

On Wednesday, Bruce Boudreau’s benching of Alex Ovechkin, or whatever you want to call it, was the second story on PTI. Regular-season hockey personnel decisions are not often the second story on PTI in early-November. The incident was all over D.C. sports blogs, and D.C. sports talk radio, and national hockey Web sites, which wasn’t terribly surprising to me, even if some fans...

Ovechkin upset with benching, but understands

Capitals-Hurricanes Preview

Coach Bruce Boudreau showed in the Washington Capitals' last game that he's willing to try something different - even leaving his two-time league MVP on the bench late in a close contest. After a spectacular end to a brief skid, the Capitals will try to keep heading in the right direction by continuing their recent dominance over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night....

Caps win in ugly fashion

In response to an awful 0-2 Canadian road trip against Edmonton and Vancouver where the Caps defense, penalty killing and transition game looked inept, Coach Bruce Boudreau made several changes to the line up against the Anaheim Ducks.  He brought up Cody Eakin from the Hershey Bears to man the wing on the 2nd line with Marcus Johansson and Alexander Semin while demoting Mike Knuble...
