On Thursday morning, Alexander Ovechkin was hit in the face by a puck during a Washington Capitals practice. Ovie immediately left the ice after the injury which occurred during a 2-on-1 drill when a save by goaltender Braden Holtby caused the puck to come up and strike Ovechkin in the chin. The Capitals superstar, whose quality of play has been trending upward as of late (six goals, four assists in his last six games )reportedly left shortly afterward for a trip to the doctor for some stitches, but not before he tweeted the nasty aftermath of what happens when a chunk of vulcanized rubber drills a player square in the face. It’s hockey ))) hahaha twitter.com/ovi8/status/31… — Alex Ovechkin (@ovi8) March 28, 2013 And the dreaded enlarged image of the gnarly aftermath: Yamma hamma, that’s nasty. But it’s nice to see that Alexander Ovechkin, who has been a longtime favorite here at the Sportress of Blogitude, can retain his sense of humor despite suffering possible permanent disfigurement. Okay, that might be a stretch, as a little gash to one’s chin is mere child’s play for a hockey player, but it will leave a scar, and let’s be honest, Ovie cannot withstand any further damage to, uh, shall we refer to them as his rugged good looks: Yamma hamma, indeed.
