A person familiar with the deal says the Nashville Predators have acquired center Paul Gaustad in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres.
USA Today and TSN first reported the trade, which was reached shortly before Monday's NHL trade deadline.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade had not been officially announced. Specific details of the trade - including what the Sabres acquired in return - were not immediately available.
In his seventh full NHL season, Gaustad is a reliable checking forward and a good face-off specialist. He proved expendable in Buffalo because he is in the final year of his contract and eligible to be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Gaustad has seven goals and 10 assists in 56 games this season.
AP Sports Writer John Wawrow, in Buffalo, N.Y., contributed to this report.

Faceoffs are important in the playoffs in crunch time. Just ask the Anaheim Ducks. If Mike Fisher doesn’t win a certain faceoff late in Game 5 of the first round last year, with the series tied and the Predators trailing in the game, 3-2, Barry Trotz’s club may still be searching for their first playoff series win in franchise history.Fisher won the faceoff. Seconds later...

The shock waves of the trade of long time Sabres centre, Paul Gaustad, are still reverberating through the Buffalo room. Gaustad was a popular man in the Buffalo room. I've told you many a Goose story in this space in the past seven years. His bros kaleta and Gerbe adore and admire him for being a mentor...

Guastad, native of Fargo, North Dakota, has played his last 6 seasons with the Buffalo Sabres since being drafted back in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. A face-off specialist who should easily take the spot of...
I couldn't resist... This story caught my eye. This story involves the teammate of Former Fighting Sioux forward Drew Stafford; apparently his all-world goalie Ryan Miller isn't happy with the team trading away Paul Gaustad. I have also noticed this season that Ryan Miller has become a bit of a complainer. Hockey is a business and sometimes teams trade players to get...
According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, the Flyers are interested in Buffalo's Paul Gaustad. Garrioch points out that the price would have to be lower than it currently is.

It appears our day is over and the Wings pretty much stood pat. However, just as I sort of feared, each of our opposition tuned up for the playoffs. Nashville especially. Let's take a look at what each of our enemies got, after the break:
Nashville: Not only did they pick up Andrei Kostitsyn, but they also picked up the guy that many Detroit fans wanted: Gaustad...
* The two players that the Predators traded for on Monday were not able to meet the team in Nashville in time for the game.

Its Day 1 of the Cody Franchise Era.
The kid that invoked an avalanche of fan appreciation and love in January in Vancouver, is now a rock star in Buffalo, NY.
Hodgson and his Sabres have a tall order tonight. Ducks will want to avenge the spanking that the Sabres applied to them in Selanne's Helsinki home coming in Rocktober.
