The headliner for Monday's sports slate is Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final. We've had a solid read of this series at Bark Bets on an individual game level, but we're changing our tune on the overall outlook of this Final. After the 7-0 thrashing that Colorado handed to Tampa Bay on Saturday, we're having a hard time seeing the Lightning recover.
Betting on the Avalanche to keep rolling - It's not just that Colorado has won both games in this series and demolished the Lightning in Game 2, it's the massive disparity in shots on goal. The Bolts are averaging a measly 19.5 shots per game thus far, while the Avalanche are averaging 34. Sure, Tampa Bay came back from down 0-2 against the Rangers in the Eastern Conference Final, but this has a completely different feel to it. In that series, the Lightning were still finding space to operate and fire off shots at will. The same cannot be said up to this point in the Final.
Colorado is dominating in every facet of the game, and even on the road, we like the Avs to win tonight at -110. The Avalanche have hit the road for all three Game 3s in their postseason run, winning every single one. Not only have they won in each of these scenarios, they've won by an average of three goals per game. If you're looking for a value bet tonight, consider the Avalanche's alternate puckline of -1.5 (+235). We unfortunately think a sweep is becoming a very real possibility, and we're adjusting our betting approach to reflect that belief.
Matt Fitzpatrick wins U.S. Open - The news out of Sunday was that England's Matt Fitzpatrick won his first major, winning the U.S. Open with a four-day total of -6. Will Zalatoris was this close to making a putt that would have forced a playoff. Zalatoris keeps coming up just short at these majors; his time has to be coming soon. We shouldn't use this space to mention that we highlighted Fitzpatrick at +3000 on Wednesday to win the event, but looks like we just did.
Buzz continues around Baker Mayfield and the Panthers - We're still a few weeks away from the beginning of NFL training camp, and one domino we've been waiting to fall is the fate of Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. The Carolina Panthers remain the most logical partner for the former Heisman winner, and the latest reports suggest the Panthers will trade for him if Cleveland takes on most of his salary. The Panthers don't have a real answer at the quarterback position, so one way or another, we like Mayfield to be in Carolina by the beginning of the season. If you think Mayfield could be a difference maker, consider betting on the Panthers to make the playoffs at +500.
Max Verstappen wins sixth event of his 2022 season - Verstappen weathered a late comeback effort from Carlos Sainz to win the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday. The win is Verstappen's sixth F1 victory of the 2022 season. It's been a dominant run for Verstappen, who will look to keep it rolling on July 3 at the British Grand Prix. Verstappen is currently -500 to win the Formula 1 World Championship, showcasing just how special of a season the 24-year-old is having.
