NEW YORK - FEBRUARY 04: Braden Holtby #70 of the Washington Capitals warms up before playing the New York Rangers on February 4, 2010 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

That’s a lot of awesome for one headline.  Maybe too much…or not enough.  Awesome is good.  If there had been a brawl between these two AHL teams, then yeah, I probably would have thrown a third “awesome” in there, just for kicks.

Alas there was no brawling between the AHL’s Hershey Bears and Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins, but there almost was, thanks to the hi jinks of Bears goalie Braden Holtby.  This past Friday the rivals squared off in a hard fought contest that had to be decided in a shootout after ending the game tied at two apiece.  Holtby won the game for Hershey after stopping the Pens’ Nick Petersen, and then performed one of the great goalie celebrations in AHL history.

First Holtby pulls out the arms spread, “Are you not entertained!” move from Gladiator as he skated out of his crease, before busting out a little air guitar and strumming his pretend axe seven or eight times.

Needless to say the Wilkes-Barre Scranton team was not amused, and they let Holtby and the Bears know about it with a little jawing and whatnot at center ice.  Cooler heads prevailed and the teams headed off the ice without incident.

Video follows the jump…

Part of the reason for the Penguins reaction to Holtby’s showboating had to do with the fact that this game was played in their home rink, so losing the game had already left a bitter taste in their mouths. Holtby’s act only exacerbated the home team’s bad feeling.

Not that the Hershey goaltender cared. I doubt he could hear their ******** and complaining over the sound of his own awesomeness.
