Pittsburgh-penguins
BOSTON –When the Bruins and Penguins did battle a couple of weeks ago in Boston, Pittsburgh forward Evgeni Malkin was one of the best players on the ice. Luckily for the B’s, Malkin won’t be anywhere near the TD Garden ice on Saturday night. Malkin didn’t make the trip to Boston and will miss his second consecutive game with an undisclosed injury. The Penguins didn’t have him Thursday night against arguably the league’s best team, the San Jose Sharks. It didn’t make much difference, though, as the Pens rolled over the Sharks with a 5-1 win. Still, Malkin has been one of the hottest players after a slow start to the season, and that certainly should make a difference against a tough Bruins team. However, the Bruins are also shorthanded. They’ll be without defensemen Adam McQuaid and Johnny Boychuk, as that duo will miss both Saturday and Sunday’s games. That means Kevan Miller and Matt Bartkowski will join the Bruins lineup for the weekend games at least. Here are the rest of the pro...

WATCH: Orpik stretchered off ice after attack from Shawn Thornton

An ugly, ugly scene unfolded in Boston on Saturday night when Brooks Orpik had to be stretchered off the ice during the first period of the Penguins-Bruins game. After Orpik delivered a brutal hit on Bruins forward Loui Eriksson earlier in the period, Bruins enforcer Shawn Thornton challenged him to a fight and, when Orpik declined, jumped the Penguins defenseman. During a scrum...

Brooks Orpik destroys Loui Eriksson with open ice hit

Brooks Orpik laid this devastating hit on Bruins forward Loui Eriksson early during the first period of Saturday’s Penguins-Bruins game in Boston. The hit looked to catch Eriksson a bit high and was enough to keep him out for the rest of the game, but the play was not called for a penalty. That would be a huge reason behind why Orpik was attacked and stretchered off the ice just...

Brooks Orpik Travelling Back to Pittsburgh With Team After Leaving Bruins-Penguins Game on Stretcher

Brooks Orpik suffered a head injury in the first period of Saturday’s Bruins-Penguins game when he was punched in the head by Boston forward Shawn Thornton after being knocked down to the ice. The Penguins defenseman had to leave the ice on a stretcher and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where “he went through a battery of tests,” according to Penguins head coach...

Dougie Hamilton Heading Back to Boston With Lower-Body Injury, Likely to Miss Rest of Trip

Bruins defensemen have been bitten bad by the injury bug, and that trend continued Sunday night in Toronto. For the fifth time this season, the Bruins were forced to finish a game down a defenseman after Dougie Hamilton left the game following the first period. Hamilton suffered a lower-body injury late in the first and ended up heading back to the locker room. The Bruins announced...

Bruins Showcase Sustained Pressure, Solid Puck Movement During Power Play (Video)

Despite doing all of the right things on the man-advantage, the Bruins weren’t able to get on the board during the second period after Simon Despres was called for holding. Patrice Bergeron was in the middle of all of the action, generating two great chances off of reflections that just missed finding the back of the net. The Bruins were able to sustain pressure in the Pittsburgh...

Max Pacioretty Says He ‘Felt Terrible’ About Hit That Hurt Johnny Boychuk, Who May Have Back Injury

The hit that sent Johnny Boychuk to the ice and then the hospital on Thursday night may not have been dirty, but it was still scary. While Boychuk has recovered to the point that he traveled back to Boston with the Bruins and will be further examined there, Bruins coach Claude Julien and the Canadiens’ Max Pacioretty, who laid the hit that downed Boychuk, were still trying to piece...

Doesn't look good for Shawn Thornton

I going to predict that that this isn't going to end well for Boston Bruins tough guy Shawn Thornton. Now it's just a matter of how long is the suspension going to be? Again, it doesn't matter if Brooks Orpik caught Loui Erikkson questionable hit early in the game, sending to the locker room with a concussion. The Department of Player Safety won't look at that when...

Bruins Still Searching for 60-Minute Effort Following Loss to Canadiens (Video)

The Bruins have started the 2013-14 season with a strong 18-8-2 record, but what’s even more impressive is that the Original Six club has been among the Eastern Conference leaders all year without giving a complete, 60-minute effort. Boston will need a three-period effort on Saturday night when it hosts the Eastern Conference-leading Pittsburgh Penguins at TD Garden. The Penguins...

Pacioretty on Boychuk fair or foul?

Max Pacioretty shoved Johnny Boychuk into the end boards Thursday night resulting in a boarding penalty for Pacioretty and horrible injury for Boychuk. 10 minutes were spent getting Boychuk from his hands and knees, where he appeared to have some trouble breathing, to a stretcher and off the ice after the collision. The exact injury is still unknown but Coach Claude Julien expects...

62 tweets that prove Boston is just the worst

Oh hey look, Boston fans think Brooks Orpik deserved to be assaulted. Compiled this quick list by searching " Orpik is a *****, " and " Oprik deserved it." Ugly stuff from Boston fans.   [View the story "Boston Fans at their worst" on Storify]

Penguins-Bruins Preview

The Pittsburgh Penguins had no problems beating one fellow Stanley Cup contender in their latest game despite the absence of Evgeni Malkin. They'd love to see the same scenario unfold Saturday night in Boston. With Malkin on the shelf again, the Penguins will try to extend their winning streak to six against a Bruins team that handed them their most recent defeat. Pittsburgh...

Bruins-Penguins Live: B’s, Pens Finish Season Series As Pittsburgh Returns to Boston

8 a.m.: The Bruins probably should have won Thursday night and retained first place in the Atlantic Division against the Montreal Canadiens. That wasn’t in the cards, though, with the B’s tripping over themselves in the second period on the way to a 2-1 loss. If they take a period off on Saturday night, things could end up being much worse. The schedule-makers didn’t do the...
