The superstition of not shaving during the playoffs has become a popular one in today's society. But one Chicago Blackhawks fan took an alternative way to show support for his team during the postseason by intentionally neglecting to mow his overgrown lawn.Frank Miller of Park Ridge, Ill. said the idea came to him when he was busy dealing with a flooded basement and couldn't find the time to mow his grass. So, he decided to let his yard grow as long as his beloved Blackhawks were still alive in the NHL postseason. From CBS 2 Chicago:“They're growing their playoff beards, so I just decided, you know what, it hit me: I'm going to make a playoff lawn and I'm going to make a sign for it and I'm going to embrace it So, embrace my ugly lawn,” Miller says.Miller made a sign explaining his scheme, and others soon embraced his ugly lawn.“People drive by, they beep, some people get out and take pictures with it. It's amazing to me,” he says. Not everyone is enamored by Miller's clever gesture, though. The city of Park Ridge deemed his property a health risk due to providing a breeding ground for mosquitos, snakes, and rodents. The city sent Miller a notice to cut his lawn, however, the request went ignored and Park Ridge officials had to hire someone else to take care of the issue.More from CBS 2:“My son and I are watching the game and I hear a lawnmower going,” Miller says. “I think it's my neighbor cutting their lawn, and it started getting closer. And there's a guy cutting my grass with this giant industrial lawnmower.”“I go, ‘Hey, what are you doing!' And he's like, ‘The city told me to come by and cut your lawn,' and I go, ‘They paid you to?' and he's like ‘Yeah.' I'm like, OK, that was the end of my playoff lawn.”For the record, the Blackhawks and the Bruins are slated to kick-off the Stanley Cup series Wednesday night in Chicago. And Miller's yard will be perfectly manicured for at least Game 1.Let's hope for the sake of the city officials of Park Ridge that the Blackhawks emerge victorious or else Blackhawks Nation may be paying them a visit soon.Via Eye on Hockey
