It's all a guessing game this time during the playoffs -- at least when it comes to supplementary discipline, and in particular, the case of the Coyotes' Martin Hanzal, who received a one-game suspension for his hit on the Kings' Dustin Brown in Game 2. Game 3 is tonight in Los Angeles. "I know these playoff games are probably worth more," Brown said after Thursday's morning skate at Staples Center. "I thought he was going to get two. But it's not an easy decision to make. Considering we're in the Western finals, as a player you really don't worry about the length of the suspension. "Right now they've got one of their top centers out and we've got to be ready to go." Hanzal has three goals and five points in 13 playoff games. In two games against the Kings, the Coyotes have one goal from one of their forwards. Expected to take Hanzal's spot in the lineup is Marc-Antoine Pouliot, who has played in five playoff games...

Coyotes goalie slashes Dustin Brown

The NHL’s Western Conference Finals series has gotten a bit ugly. The Phoenix Coyotes and Los Angeles Kings clearly don’t like each other and it is starting to show. After taking Game 1 in Phoenix, Los Angeles was up 2-0 in Game 2...

Doan, Hanzal may miss Game 3 after big hits

The Coyotes are down two games after being swept on home ice by the Los Angeles Kings, who have now opened three consecutive playoff series with a pair of road wins and appear to be a runaway train with a 10-1 record in the postseason. The question is whether the Coyotes will be down two of their three captains when the series resumes in Los Angeles with Game 3 on Thursday. Both...

Dustin Penner Correct in Calling Hits by Martin Hanzal, Shane Doan 'Reckless' (Videos)

There's been a lot of howling in the wake of Tuesday's Game 2 of the Western Conference finals, and it hasn't been from the Coyotes. Kings forward Dustin Penner said after the game that two questionable hits from Phoenix' Martin Hanzal and Shane Doan were "reckless," and he's spot-on in that assessment. Hanzal's hit, the far more egregious of the...

Kopitar In the Spotlight

from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail, The Kings’ ability to absorb and adapt to Sutter’s message is one of the primary reasons they are 10-1 in the playoffs and halfway to qualifying for their first Stanley Cup final in 19 years. Kings bring dominant playoff run back home

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -- The Los Angeles Kings have maintained their discipline and cool during a dominant playoff run that has them two games away from the team's first Stanley Cup finals appearance since 1993. They've frustrated the Phoenix Coyotes with a mix of balanced scoring, shot-limiting defense and solid goaltending in building a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference...

Mike Smith does his best Ron Hextall impersonation

You know the announcers are right, this isn't new to the NHL and Ron Hextall would be impressed with Phoenix Coyotes goalie Mike Smith  and his chop of the Kings forward Dustin Brown. I think when a goalie does this type of a bush leagues move it opens him up to reprisals. While I don't condone this move by Smith - sometimes this tactic works because it sends a message...

Almost Everything You Need To Know To Sound Like A Real Kings Fan

For some crazy and inexplicable reason, I’ve seemed to notice a resurgence of interest in the LA Kings lately. Since I’ve proudly proclaimed myself to be a Kings fan for the last 15 years, many people have been coming to me with a barrage of questions about how this has happened. Right now, the cool new thing in LA is to be a Kings fan, and while my first instinct is to be annoyed...
