Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid faced an uncertain future just a few months ago. Now, he’s playing the Stanley Cup playoffs for the Bruins in search of the second Cup of his career.
The big blue liner was recognized for all he’s done on Tuesday morning when he was named a Masterton Memorial Trophy finalist by the NHL. The Masterton is given to the player that best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Joining McQuaid as finalists are Minnesota goalie Josh Harding and Pittsburgh forward Sidney Crosby.
McQuaid’s status for the 2013 was in the up in the air after he was diagnosed with blood clots as a result of the condition Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. The condition led to two surgeries for McQuaid.
However, McQuaid returned to the ice for the start of the season and played 32 games for the B’s this season.
