He’s big. Huge actually. So it would seem to make sense that Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara would be placed in front of the opposition’s net during the power play. At 6’9″ and 255 pounds he not only provides a massive screen for opposing goalies but would prove difficult – perhaps impossible at times – for defenders to try and get him out of the way. “We’re tinkering with that” Bruins head coach Claude Julien told the Boston Globe. “We’re going to have a look at that. We have some guys that we feel can shoot the puck from the back-end. Z is probably one of our best guys at screening with his big body.

Rejoice all ye’ hockey nuts and puckheads! There is a hockey game tonight and the Boston Bruins are playing in it! Sure, it is just a preseason game, but its a hockey game dammit so I’m going to be happy. What is even better is that not only is it a preseason game, but it is also a game against Montreal meaning that its a Boston v. Montreal game in September! What could be better...

Jarome Iginla Says Stop Off in Pittsburgh Was Valuable in Learning to Adapt to New Teammates With Bruins (Video)

Jarome Iginla spent his first 15 seasons in the NHL with one team. Now, suddenly he’s wearing his third different sweater in just six months. The former Flame said his stop off in Pittsburgh was valuable in learning to adapt to new teammates. He’s carrying that knowledge with him to Boston, where he’ll have to learn some new faces. Iginla also said having a whole training camp...

Boston Bruins will win the Atlantic Division

Winning divisional titles is a common trend in Boston Bruins franchise history. In the past five seasons, the Bruins have been divisional champions three times (2008-09, 2010-11, 2011-12). The realignment of the NHL to Atlantic, Central, Metropolitan, and Pacific has forced more compacted and difficult divisions. Previously, there were six divisions holding five teams. Now, with...

Boston Bruins: Jordan Caron Entering Make Or Break Year

Bruce Bennett / Getty Images By Mitch Cole (@DirtyWaterBuzz) When the Boston Bruins selected Jordan Caron 25th overall, it was clear that they had high expectations for him. Coming off a 67 point (36 goals, 21 assists) season with Rimouski Ocean of the QMJHL, the Bruins envisioned Caron as an important piece for the future. Since signing him an entry level deal in March 2010, the...

Shawn Thornton on the Mandatory Visor Rule

22 Shawn Thornton I think this is my favorite Shawn Thornton shot thus far (Photo credit: Wikipedia) This is worth a read, you have to wonder what is going to happen to the players that wear the visor and get into a fight. Just for the record, the American Hockey League has a mandatory visor rule and the players seem to work their way around it. Junior leagues in the USA and Canada...

P.J. Axelsson Helping Loui Eriksson Get Acquainted With Boston, Told Him It’s ‘Great Town to Play for’

Loui Eriksson had some fans in Boston before he even stepped onto the ice. In the blockbuster trade that sent Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley to the Stars, the Bruins gained a handful of prospects and the highly-touted, but mostly unknown, Eriksson. His play wasn’t unknown to former Bruin and current team scout for Europe, P.J. Axelsson, however. When the deal was finalized, Axelsson...

Pre-Season Game #1: Boston Bruins at Montreal Canadiens

The leaves are changing colors. People are heading to apple orchards all around New England and picking their favorite red fruit. Everything is flavored with pumpkin. The Patriots are, unfortunately, playing football.  It's fall and what comes with fall? Mother ******* hockey. Well, pre-season hockey today but it still counts as something.  The Bruins are heading to...

Bruins seeking another Stanley Cup appearance

(Photo Credit: Comcast SportsNet New England) Three seasons, two Stanley Cup appearances, and one Stanley Cup series win encompasses the Boston Bruins. Does Iginla Have Enough Left in The Tank?

We all know the story, the Bruins thought they had Jarome Iginla at the trade deadline, but then were informed hours later that Jarome opted to go to the then surging Pittsburgh Penguins...and we all know what happened from there. The Bruins went on to trade for old man Jaromir Jagr and make perhaps the most memorable run for a cup, coming from behind down 4-1 with 10 minutes to...

Bergeron Update

Patrice Bergeron is the heart of the Bruins team, and everything, (and I mean everything, hockey, work, breakfast, whatever) is better when Bergeron is healthy. The problem over the summer was, Bergeron wasn't healthy - breakfast didn't taste quite as sweet. But now, as summer comes to a close, the news is getting better and better.     The twenty-eight year...

Bruins see comparisons between Iginla, Horton

The comparisons between Nathan Horton and Jarome Iginla were inevitable. Horton's decision to spurn the Boston Bruins' advances and leave for the Columbus Blue Jackets during the offseason left the Bruins without a power forward to combine with David Krejci and Milan Lucic. For three years including the Stanley Cup championship season of 2011 Krejci Lucic and Horton were...
