TEAMS: Boston Bruins
The Bruins might have had a knack for starting slow during afternoon games in the past, but they seem to know they can’t afford those anymore. With the shortened 48-game season in effect, the B’s were preaching the idea that every game matters that much more in 2013, and they’re backing up that talk with their play early on Monday afternoon. Despite an afternoon start, the Bruins (and the Jets, to their credit) are coming out firing. NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette has more. Check it out in the above video. Young Bruins fan finds something gross in food

The Bruins are giving their fans free food vouchers for the first five games of the season as an apology of sorts for making them suffer through the extended lockout, but as this kid and the disgusted look on his face will attest, just because something is free don’t necessarily mean it’s good. I have no idea what sort of food item this mother got her kid from the TD Garden concession...

Young Bruins fan finds something gross in his food (Video)

A young Boston Bruins fan found something gross in his food just before the start of the second period of Monday's game at the TD Garden against the Winnipeg Jets. No word as to what the boy was eating or what he found in his food, but his expression was absolutely priceless. H/T Puck Daddy. Visit us at and follow us on Twitter @HoldoutSports.

Zdeno Chara Gives Jersey to Woman Whose Husband Was Happy to See Bruins Win Stanley Cup Before Passing Away

It wasn’t the first time the Bruins literally gave fans the shirts off their backs. But this time, maybe it was extra special. When Bruins captain Zdeno Chara handed over his game-worn jersey after the Bruins’ 3-1 season-opening victory against the Rangers on Saturday night, he found an appreciative fan who had a story to tell. “I introduced myself, the lady introduced herself...

Dougie Hamilton’s Dream Comes True in Solid Debut on Bruins’ Blue Line

BOSTON — With the TD Garden lights dimmed, smoke machines shooting and music blaring, Dougie Hamilton took the ice for the first time as an NHL player. The 19-year-old Bruins defenseman skated out to a thunderous ovation from a sellout TD Garden crowd. Moments later, he would hop over the boards and make his NHL debut in Boston’s 3-1 win over the Rangers. All in all, not a bad...

Video: Young Bruins fan finds something gross in his food

The Boston Bruins rewarded their fans in attendance on Monday with a 2-1 victory over Winnipeg. The Bruins have also devised a way to help say their sorry about the lockout: free food. The team is handing out three concession stand vouchers in each of its five home games in January. The vouchers are good for food or non-alcoholic drinks. Basically, anything except some brew, but I...

Gregory Campbell Plans to Keep Bringing Energy, Stresses Importance of Being Prepared Every Game (Video)

The Bruins have plenty of offensive firepower, but it’s the team’s fourth line that often gets Boston clicking. Gregory Campbell, Shawn Thornton and Daniel Paille have all been known to provide the Bruins with energy, and that’s something the trio takes a great deal of pride in. NESN’s Naoko Funayama caught up with Campbell before Monday’s game against the Jets, and the...

Second Look: Shawn Thornton fights Mike Rupp

Before the season started DOY Patron Saint and Third Greatest NHLer of All Time Shawn Thornton had this to say about the lockout: Snazzy coat, Twos. And, well, he didn't waste much time before dropping the gloves in this season. After the NY Rangers scored on a partial-screen shot to cut the Bs lead to 2-1, Twos Fist of Fury saw an opportunity to right the ship...

Claude Julien Knows Importance of Balancing Goalies, But Favorable Early Schedule Should Help

BOSTON –  Claude Julien knows a shortened season will provide some unusual circumstances that may lead to some unusual coaching decisions. But in terms of divvying up goaltending responsibilities, the Bruins head coach isn’t thinking too far ahead. Tuukka Rask got his second start in as many games on Monday for the B’s matinee tilt with the  Winnipeg Jets, but it’s clear...

Beware the Bruins Concession Stand

The Boston Bruins are apparently giving out free food vouchers to make up for the strike (yep, done). So -- what's this kid got in his food that he doesn't want? Even Jeff doesn't... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~

Providence, RI, January 20, 2013 – David Warsofsky had a goal and an assist Sunday for the Providence Bruins, who outshot the Connecticut Whale 38-15 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Providence on the way to a 4-1 win. J.T. Miller scored the only Whale goal.  Ryan Spooner and Justin Florek had two assists each for the Bruins. The Whale led for much of the first period, after...

Dougie shining so far

One of the most talked about Bruin's players coming into the season was 19-year old Dougie Hamilton, pegged to be the future of this team's defensive unit. The Bruins, along with Hamilton, are off to a tremendous start. Watching the first two games, I thought Hamilton was noticeably one of the better players on the ice. He is demonstrating poise and maturity, covering his...

Bruins Overcome Adversity Against Jets With Win That Showcases Team’s Resolve

BOSTON –- The Bruins had plenty of chances to pack it in on Monday afternoon at the Garden against Winnipeg, and had they been a lesser team, they may have done just that. The B’s were tested in numerous ways, but still found just enough to escape with a 2-1 shootout win, now having racked up a maximum four points in the season’s first two games. In the process, the Bruins...

Bruins’ Penalty Kill Comes Up Big Again, Plays Key Role in Win Over Jets

BOSTON –- Things didn’t look good for the Bruins in overtime Monday against the Winnipeg Jets. Having already killed one penalty at the end of regulation and into overtime, Boston was tasked with going a man down yet again, this time for the duration of the OT period. Bruins captain Zdeno Chara was tagged with a highly questionable holding call, adding frustration to an afternoon...

Jets-Bruins Preview

Despite the long lockout, the Boston Bruins appeared to be in midseason form in winning their opener. They should have a good chance to make it two in a row with the Winnipeg Jets in town Monday. The Bruins look to make it 11 straight home victories over a Jets team that, in contrast, looked rusty in dropping its first game. Boston got goals from Milan Lucic, Daniel Paille and...
