The Philadelphia Flyers were out hustled in their 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. They were out shot, out shone and out hustled. Aside from the first 10-15 minutes of the game, the Flyers were a disaster.

Some fans have turned to Ilya Bryzgalov as the scapegoat for the loss. My first question is what game were these people watching?

If not for Ilya Bryzgalov, the Flyers could have been down after the 1st period. If anything, Bryzgalov fended the Devils off and kept the Flyers miraculously ahead after 2 periods. The Flyers were murdered on the ice in the 2nd period, with the Devils dictating the pace and dominating the Flyers’ defensive zone. The fact that it took the Devils until the third to score was amazing. And it had nothing to do with anyone on the team except Bryzgalov.

Sure, Bryz slammed his stick on the ice after giving up the 2nd goal. He was frustrated. He should have been. The team in front of him wasn’t playing good hockey. Hell, they weren’t even playing BAD hockey.

You don’t fail to get a shot off for 18 minutes of a period because the goalie didn’t play well. That’s on the team. The offense was inept and the defense was even worse.

Ilya Bryzgalov has had his moments this season. There can be no questions about that. But this game was not on him.

Claude Giroux, Danny Briere and the entire Flyers defense has to be better. The whole team has to be better. I can’t think of a single Flyers player, aside from Bryzgalov, that I could point to as having a decent game on Tuesday night.

Nope, sorry friends, this one is on the whole team.Similar Posts:

Idiot Flyers fan’s customized Wayne Simmonds jersey: ‘The Black Guy’ (pic)

Hoo boy. Way to class it up there, guy. Yeesh. A fitting punishment for this dolt’s terribly insensitive and inappropriate customized jersey would be to allow Wayne Simmonds do what the Philadelphia Flyers forward did to Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Eric Brewer earlier this season, although I imagine Simmonds would likely do what I’m doing [...]

Flyers Will Benefit from Extra Day Off

The Philadelphia Flyers have lost two straight games against the New Jersey Devils and now trail in their playoff series 2-1. The teams will have an extra day off before Game 4 on Sunday, May 6. As a Flyers fan, I feel like the extra day off couldn’t have come at a better time for this team. As ugly as things have been lately, the Flyers are still only a few seconds away...

Where Have You Gone, Claude Giroux?

13 days ago, Claude Giroux sent a statement to the hockey world in Game 6 of the Flyers' opening round series with their hated in-state rivals from Pittsburgh. Giroux, who asked head coach Peter Laviolette to start the game and then told Danny Briere to "watch this" seconds before faceoff, laid out Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby and fired a shot past Marc-Andre...

Flyers Have Their Backs Against the Wall After OT Loss

It was to be their final line change of the game. With Erik Gustaffson and Brayden Schenn caught, Ilya Kovalchuk launched a nifty long pass down the ice and found Alexei Ponikarovsky streaking toward the net 1-on-1 against Andreas Lilja. He took one shot that Bryzgalov stopped, but the puck bounced back to him and he slid it into the net for an overtime winner. Just like that the...

Casual, Jam-Less Flyers Poop The Bed in Game 3 Overtime Loss

Where was the timeout tonight Pete?   I don’t know about you but I’m tired of people saying, “we’re still the better team”, or “we’ll still win the series”. People are saying this even after this overtime loss the the Devils tonight. This is the exact same attitude that has the Flyers in this position to begin with. I do agree, that overall, the Flyers are the better...

Philadelphia bar offering ‘Crosby Tears’ as one of its draft beers

If the Flyers’ pursuit of the Stanley Cup ends this round at the hands of the Devils, at least they beat the Penguins. For many fans in the Philadelphia area, that will likely be the mindset. The Flyers knocked off the Penguins with relative ease in the opening round of the playoffs and they have certainly had their fair share of fun with it. First there was this insulting Philly...

The Sports betting edge for May 3, 2012

For the NHL Playoffs I’m being a homer but I have to be. If I can get the Philadelphia Flyers as an underdog which they are now I’m going to take them all day. As an underdog the Flyers are 4-1 in their last 5 games and in playoff games where they’re the underdog. Similarities emerge from past wars as Devils dismantle Flyers

Negative Jam: Devils Drop Flyers 4-1 in Game 2

So far against the New Jersey Devils, the Flyers have put together a solid 60 minutes of hockey. The problem is, they're two games into this second round playoff series. The Flyers came out with some serious jam in the first period on Tuesday night, putting 9 shots on goal, crashing the net and generally making life miserable for Martin Brodeur, who looked for most of the period...
