Watching mascots get tackled is usually hilarious, but this incident seems to be a bit more serious. Police in Victoria, British Columbia, are considering filing charges against one Western Hockey League spectator after the fan body slammed Victoria Royals mascot Marty the Marmot to the ice during a game of musical chairs, according to Island Sports News. The altercation occurred when Marty playfully pushed one of the inflatable seats away from an adult male contestant and toward a younger female contestant during the second intermission festivities. The man was not amused, and he responded by picking up the mascot and slamming him to the ice before leaving the rink to a chorus of boos. Marty is apparently a pretty big deal around Victoria, having beat out fellow mascots from the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, minor leagues and college sports to win mascotinsider.com’s “Favorite Mascot of the Year” award back in August. He won’t be on the shelf for long, as the Royals announced on their Facebo...

2013 Offseason Primer: Miami Marlins

The Marlins won the winter following the 2011 season. Last winter, they clearly did not, trading nearly every player of consequence on their team between the All-Star Break and Christmas. This winter, the Marlins seem to have more of a plan in place. They've got a young core, and there's really only one player on their team that will likely draw a lot of interest in the trade...
