Chris Stewart was suspended 3 games by someone who looks like he should be in a Geico commercial.  I feel like at the end of every one of Brendan Shanahan’s explanations he needs to say “That was so easy a cave-man could do it!”…  Okay okay, he’s not a neanderthal, but can he at least lighten up a bit?  His demeanor is that of a policeman telling some woman her husband was murdered.  You’re announcing an NHL suspension!  It’s not life and death!…… Anywho, this suspension officially qualifies as throwing gas on the fire that is Chris Stewart’s season.  I said earlier in the week that if you’re sitting in 11th or 12th place and waaay out of a playoff spot it’s time to start hacking limbs.  Guys like Chris Stewart are the limbs I’m talking about.  For those of you sittin’ pretty (or at least a stone’s throw away from a playoff spot) Stewart is still worth hanging onto though.  His season is not lost yet… Ilya Kovalchuk – LW/RW (NJ):  Here’s someone who is

Tyler Meyers will face no suspension after hit on Zubrus

Brendan Shanahan, the NHL’s senior vice-president of player safety, reviewed the play today and came to the conclusion that there was significant head contact. However, he felt Myers did not target Zubrus head and tried for a body check when Zubrus leaned forward to reach for the puck. Meyers clocked Zubrus at the 10:00 mark of the second period. The game was Zubrus 1,000 in the...

Khan(!): Smith’s Probably In And Wings Admit Power Play Sucks Really, Really, Really Bad

On a day when Brendan Shanahan suspended former Denver punkass and current St. Louis golfer Chris Stewart three games for his brutal attack on our innnocent lamb Nik Kronwall, Deep Digging Captain Ansar Khan(!) reports that Brendan Smith (after finishing a suspension levied by the same Brendan Shanahan we just talked about) will be in there tomorrow against the team that almost choked...

Shanahan Skips a Beat

Up in the illustrious NHL offices in New York City there sits a man, alone in the dark. It is 10 o'clock on a warm November night and the only light that shines in the room flashes from a lone flat screen television that is mounted on the wall. Accompanying the glow of the television is the muffled voice of the Boston Bruins play-by-play announcer, Jack Edwards. When the light...

NHL Should Just Employ Figure Skaters If It Wants to Add Extra Legislation to Protect Goalies

You wouldn't expect a figure skater to have to deal with a heavy check from an NHL defenseman, so why should an NHL defenseman have to deal with a fellow hockey player being treated like a figure skater? You may not have the same thought, but you're not Jack Edwards. NESN's Bruins play-by-play man tackled the issue of goaltender protection, after the "hue and cry...

Potential Rule Changes: Illegal Defense and Making Goaltenders Fair Game

By Patrick Powell Two games from last week may have set the wheels in motion for two substantial rule changes. The Hit Heard 'Round The Crease
