PLAYERS: Chad Johnson
TEAMS: Boston Bruins
The Bruins increased their lead in the Eastern Conference to three points with a 4-2 win over the Oilers on Thursday night, and the difference in the game was the stellar performance of backup goalie Chad Johnson. Boston came into the contest allowing just 28.9 shots per game, but it gave up 41 to the highly skilled Oilers. Even though he was forced to stop a lot of shots and three Edmonton power plays, Johnson stood tall in net and allowed just two goals. The 27-year-old netminder made a career-high 39 saves, and is has now won five consecutive games. Check out what he had to say about Thursday’s win in the video above.Filed under: Boston Bruins Video, Bruins Overtime Live, Chad Johnson, Headlines, NESN Video

Chad Johnson Becomes Latest Member of Bruins to Step Up When Needed Most in B’s Win

When the Bruins signed Chad Johnson prior to the season, there were plenty of people who wrote off the acquisition of the career backup. There was far from a consensus that he’d make the big team. Through more than a third of the season, however, Johnson is looking like quite the pick-up. It’s not an easy job to be a backup goaltender in the NHL, but Johnson has flourished in...

Chad Johnson stops 39 shots as Bruins beat Oilers

The Bruins knew how dangerous the talented young Oilers could be, and it certainly showed last night. Fortunately for the B’s, they built a big enough cushion early — and received stellar 39-save goaltending from Chad Johnson — to slip away with a 4-2 victory. The Bruins have had a nasty habit of playing well for only a portion of games, yet finding ways to win — often with...

Good Vision In Attacking Zone Allows Torey Krug to Create Scoring Chance for Patrice Bergeron (Video)

Torey Krug has tremendous vision in the attacking zone, and it’s one reason why the rookie defenseman is able to create so many scoring chances at even strength and on the power play. In the second period of Thursday’s game against the Oilers, Krug scanned the ice before receiving the puck at the point and delivered a great pass to Patrice Bergeron to set up a quality scoring...

Bruins’ Recent Injuries, Involvement in Olympics Could Hurt Chances of Late-Season, Playoff Success

Every team deals with injuries during an NHL season. It just so happens that the Bruins are dealing with all of them at once. Over one mid-December week, the number of Bruins players lost to injury increased exponentially: since-returned Johnny Boychuk (back), Loui Eriksson (concussion), Chris Kelly (ankle), Dougie Hamilton (lower body) and Daniel Paille (upper body). The team...

Iginla scores pair of goals as Bruins double up Oilers

The Boston Bruins seemed to be cruising toward a win before they had to hold on to beat the Edmonton Oilers. Jarome Iginla scored a pair of goals, and the Eastern Conference-leading Bruins outlasted the West cellar-dwelling Oilers 4-2 on Thursday night. Dennis Seidenberg and Brad Marchand also had goals for the Bruins (22-8-2), who have won four in a row and eight of 10. The Bruins...

Strong Penalty Killing a Major Factor in Bruins’ 4-2 Win Over Oilers (Video)

A good portion of the Bruins’ success stems from their ability to kill penalties on a consistent basis, and their exceptional performance in this area of the game was a major factor in the team’s 4-2 victory over the Oilers on Thursday night. Edmonton puts a lot of high-end skill on the ice during each power play, with forwards such as Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent...

The NHL's Boston Problem by @ExcitedBobErrey

March 8, 2011 - Off a faceoff both Zdeno Chara and Max Pacioretty are racing towards the far boards for the puck. The puck gets hit up ice at the Bruins' blueline, Chara and Pacioretty race up the ice for it, and Chara slams Pacioretty's head off the stanchion at the red line as the puck is already past the Canadiens' blueline. Pacioretty got a step on Chara and Chara...

(Video) Milan Lucic vs. Luke Gazdic

Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic (11g-13a-24pts) is a skilled fighter that can also score goals and put up points. He didn't really need to fight fourth line player like Luke Gazdic (1g-1a-2pts) who's put up very minor numbers in 25 games with the Edmonton Oilers.

Claude Julien Praises Andrew Ference’s Work Ethic, Leadership Ahead of Bruins-Oilers Matchup (Video)

Andrew Ference joined the Bruins during the 2006-07 season, and he immediately became an important part of the team’s blue line and leadership group. The veteran blueliner played a key role in the team’s run to a Stanley Cup championship in 2010-11, and in addition to his quality on-ice performance, Ference also made a significant impact in the community and adopted Boston as...

PREVIEW: Bruins vs. Canucks -- Goooo West!

Honestly, this preview was going to be about how we don't give a **** about Vancouver anymore because we see them once or twice a year, the Cup finals were two years ago, and what's the point of further belittling the special needs student of the NHL? And then we started going through our Photoshops and stories from the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals. It was a golden...

B’s Beat: The Bruins Themed Wedding You Wish You Had (PHOTOS)

The only things fans of the Boston Bruins love more than the Spoked B are family and friends (sometimes that’s even be up for debate). However, when Big Bad Bruins Nation member Adrian Clifford shared her story about her Bruins themed engagement/wedding, the love for her husband and her adopted hockey team (she is from Florida originally and loved college football) were just fit...

32. Boston Bruins at E monton Oilers. Ah E monton, The D Is Silent

Oh the Edmonton Oilers. What a horrible, horrible hockey franchise you are. Despite having the first pick three years in a row, the Oilers are sitting in last place in the Western Conference. Why? Because they don't have defense and they don't have goaltending. Apparently Steve Tambellini believed that scoring wins everything and that is why Steve Tambellini is no longer...
