Monday and Tuesday were big days for Buffalo’s sports radio station, WGR550 AM. On Monday, it was announced that the Buffalo Sabres and Entercom, the company that owns WGR, have agreed on a deal that will see a two-hour daily show from 10am-12pm titled “Sabres Hockey Hotline”. The show will replace the oft-criticized Colin Cowherd, or as it was called by someone, “The LeBron Show.” The show starts June 18th and will be hosted by Kevin Sylvester. It will emanate from a studio being constructed in the Sabres Store at First Niagara Center. The programming news wasn’t done yet as on Tuesday it was announced that John Murphy will be returning to the airwaves with “The John Murphy Show” weeknights from 7-9pm starting July 26th. In total, WGR has added four hours of daily local programming.  A move that I have long been wanting and clamoring for. To see it finally come to fruition makes this member of the media a happy camper. I understand what having nationally syndicated shows does for a...

Source: Myers Had Knee Surgery 3 Weeks Ago

You haven’t heard about this from the mainstream media, and Sabres President Ted Black bristled when I asked him about it at last night’s Sabres New Media Summit, but I have it on very good authority that Tyler Myers underwent knee surgery at a local medical facility on May 23rd. The Sabres star defenseman was hampered for most or all of this past season by a lingering knee...

The (Delayed) Report From Sabres Summit 3.0

Sabres President Ted Black making announcements as the summit got underway This past Monday was the Buffalo Sabres’ third installment of their “New Media” (Blogger) Summit. As with each summit, this one had the most attendees of the three with 16 different blogs represented this time around. Before I get into my thoughts on each individual aspect of the event, I want to first...

Will Team-Sponsored Radio Work In Buffalo?

Sabres Advantageously Using Media, Both New And Old At the risk of dating myself, I can still remember the anger I felt as a youngster when then-Sabres GM Scotty Bowman traded fan favorites Jim Schoenfeld and Danny Gare to Detroit.  It was a monster 7-player deal that brought a feisty 21-year-old forward named Mike Foligno to Buffalo. “Schony” and “Tickets” were beloved...

Duff feels right at home

Brian Duff (Left) has spent the last five years working for the NHL Network “If there is such a thing as a dream job this is it for me.” Buffalo Sabres broadcaster Brian Duff has been seemingly everywhere in northern North America.  Since the age of 19 when Duff first moved from the greater Toronto area to Calgary, he has moved 15 times and lived in 8 cities. None however have...

GARTH: Enzomatic

Back on March 10, the stock of Tyler Ennis of the Sabres shot through the roof. Reading Enni's stats today are decieving as he potted 15 goals and added 19 assists in 48 games. The real story isn't how he started the season. Its how he ended the season, and in so doing, ignited not only his own game, but that of his linies, too. Dateline: Ottawa. Lindy Ruff correctly...

What does this picture have to say about Colin Cowherd's weeny? All those pictures together, not one where Beadle posed like this. [Follow me @TravisHouser]
