Was at a surprise birthday party for one of Jenn's friends last night and as I was at the bar buying drinks a woman said 'Are you Pat McLean? You used to coach my brother Ryan.'I looked at her and after a dim moment realized who she was, the younger sister of a kid I coached for three seasons twenty years ago. You're a lot taller than the last time I saw you, I remarked.Caught up for a while, turns out that life had been good to her, her brother, their Mom and aunt, they lived just around the corner from us in High Park all those years ago and I got to know the family quite well. Also at the party, another young woman who I also remembered, they were still friends after all of these years. This one remarked how she had a crush on me way back in the day.Very funny. Very weird.Grinding out January, winter has finally arrived although the cold and snowy stretch of days we see here and there are almost immediately followed by a couple of days of rain which leave everythin...

Jordan Eberle on After Hours

You had to feel for Edmonton Oilers’ winger Jordan Eberle; his team had just lost to their Alberta rival, Eberle had only just returned to from injury, and although Eberle is the team’s leading scorer, he had not been named to the All Stars game. These could not have been easy topics for the sophomore, but those were of course the topics of choice. And then, you had...

Hall to return when Oilers host Flames tonight

After recently revealing the aftermath of the freak injury he sustained during the Oilers warm-up on Tuesday, Hall will be making a quick return to the line-up tonight when the Oilers host the Flames. During the very scary incident that could have been even worse, Hall slipped on a puck, fell to the ice and was accidentally stepped on by teammate Corey Potter. Hall needed 30...

Tyler Bunz: 2nd For Wins in the WHL

For the Edmonton Oilers, goaltending continues to be an issue if not a major concern. When this season began, it appeared as though Nikolai Khabibulin was back to his prime and that Devan Dubnyk was ready to make the next step. Now, as the season has progressed, neither Dubnyk nor Khabibulin looks as steady, but they do still have great games from time to time. What may be of little...

Little Battle in Battle of Alberta

Oilers lose 6-2 to Flames If there were any doubts that this Edmonton Oilers team will not finish well in the basement of the league once again this year, they may have been removed with one single period. The Oilers came out flat and allowed three goals through the first 20 minutes. The best scoring chance and actual goal came from injured Taylor Hall who scored just as the buzzer...

The Marty Party at the IIHF World Juniors

The only country at the IIHF World Juniors to have two Edmonton Oilers’ prospects was Slovakia, and so for many Slovakia became a fan favourite. Defenceman Martin Marincin, at the time played for the Prince George Cougars, but has since been traded to the Regina Pats was paired up with fellow Slovakian and Oil Kings defenceman Martin Gernat. Fondly, these two were referred...

Richard Cloutier: 29 Ales Hemsky Deals

I'll start tonight's blog by saying I don't want to talk about the Oilers/Blues game. Next subject. The Taylor Hall injury. You folks have all seen the pictures by now? K, so if you're Steve Tambellini, would you let his kid...no matter how eager he is to be playing...play? I hope the Oilers staff and management are not stupid here. Hall is obviously very injured...

Are The Oilers Rebuilding?

You may have heard the Edmonton Oilers are rebuilding. “It won’t be an overnight fix.” “It’s all part of the process.” “This is a young, fast, exciting team.” These are all true statements that may or may not be distracting us (us, being Oilers... Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter and Facebook! -- With Stephane Da Costa heading up from Binghamton, it appears that the injury situation in Ottawa after last night's 4-1 victory has hit a bit of a snag.
