When 30-year-old Ilya Kovalchuk walked away from the final 12 years and $77 million remaining on his contract with the New Jersey Devils for the opportunity to play in the KHL many wondered if Alex Ovechkin might consider doing the same. Ovechkin who has eight years and $79 million remaining on his 13-year $124 million contract with the Capitals turns 28 in September. But this is not about Ovechkin who during last year’s NHL lockout said he would consider staying in Russia. Ovechkin wants to win a Stanley Cup to solidify his status as one of the best players to ever lace ‘em up.
