The Dallas Stars went to Montreal, Quebec on Tuesday to play the Canadiens. The Canadiens moved to 8 wins and 5 losses on the season after picking up a win at home against the Dallas Stars. The Stars moved to 5 wins, 6 losses, and 1 loss in a shootout which came last week against the Winnipeg Jets. They also remain dead last in the Central Divisions and second last in the Western Conference, only behind the Edmonton Oilers. The Dallas Stars’ mental mistakes showed that they had played back to back games as well. The breakout had a hard time being in sync and passes were continually into the skates of the receiver. Any momentum that the Stars had in the second period was bursted by a questionable penalty on Alex Goligoski. The Stars were fortunate to enter the third period down 2-1 after a snipe by Cody Eakin. Unfortunately the goal was the last of goals to come to either team. Star of the Game Cody Eakin skated as if he had a week of rest. Scoring a goal aside, Eakin had explosiveness to his game that led to several scoring opportunities for him and his linemates. Along with Alex Chiasson, they combined for a total of nine shots on net; some of which pressured Canadien’s goaltender, Carey Price, to make clutch saves. New Star Rising Valeri Nichushkin continues to search for ways to net his first NHL goal. (USA Today Sports) The goal-hungry Valeri Nichushkin went another game without scoring his first NHL goal. Nichushkin had several scoring opportunities, yet came short of netting the puck. Nichushkin seems to be in the right place to get the puck, but his mind is only interested in taking the first shot available at the goalie. Valeri needs to gain a more mature sense of patience and what to do with the puck. With the assistance of experienced players on the roster such as Shawn Horcoff and Ray Whitney, Nichushkin has the opportunity to realize the patience required for him to be the playmaker that the Dallas Stars expect him to be. Note: The Dallas Stars are 0-3 in the second game this season when they play back-to-back nights. The Stars have back-to-back night games ten more times this season.
