Darren Helm flipped his way to a highlight-reel goal on Friday night, showing off his acrobatic prowess as he captured his second tally of the night. With the Red Wings shorthanded, the speedy forward went charging down the ice to chase a loose puck, racing a couple of Islanders players who were approaching him from the front and behind. The obstacles proved to be no problem for Helm, though, as he sprinted himself past defenseman Andrew MacDonald, and over goaltender Kevin Poulin who was coming way out of the crease to chase the biscuit. The three-person pile-up on the ice certainly overshadowed Helm’s nifty shorthanded goal as bodies seemed to be flying everywhere for a moment. Helm reached the puck just a hair before Poulin, poking the puck — and his stick– to the back of the net, but the forward was too busy flipping over the goalie to even see his goal go in, giving Detroit a 2-0 lead. MacDonald also followed in Helm’s tumbling footsteps, mirroring his actions and flying helple...

Red Wings forward Darren Helm scored a SPECTACULAR shorthanded goal against the New York Islanders, avoiding an Andrew MacDonald check and then firing the puck--and his stick--toward the net before goaltender Kevin Poulin, who was attempting to make a poke check, ended up kneeing the dekeing and dangling Helm. VIDEO: Darren Helm goes up over end for shorthanded goal

Darren Helm certainly scored the goal of the night (and perhaps the year) tonight when he went up over end against the Islanders for a shorthanded tally putting the Red Wings up 2-0. This was also Helm’s second of the night as he continues to make his presence felt since making his way back to the lineup after sitting out pretty much all of last season.

Alfie's Return to Ottawa Recap 12.01.2013

Spoiler Alert: Alfie scored. Totally got the goal that iced the game for us, an empty netter that put us up 4-2 with about a minute left. The nail in the coffin. The dagger in the heart. The Cooke skate-blade on the heal of Erik Karlsson. The arrow through the heart. The bullet through Lincoln’s cranium. He also had an assist, and if you did not catch the pregame tribute by...

Red Wings-Islanders quick take: Wings roar past Isles

I can only describe the Red Wings' play over the past two games as..."Something completely different" from what the Wings have delivered their fans for the vast majority of the 2013-2014 season. The Wings have won their last two games by a combined score of 11-1, defeating Boston 6-1 on Wednesday and roaring into Long Island and taking their first game in...Ten years...

Masterton Leader

The only trophy that I routinely make picks for that I have not made any picks this season so far is the Masterton Trophy.  This trophy is officially for perseverance, dedication and sportsmanship but it doesn't hold that definition well.  Several of the past winners are among the all-time career penalty minutes leaders - that isn't what you would expect from an award that...
