If you've yet to see it, take a quick peek at the "altercation" from Friday night's tilt between the New York Rangers and Florida Panthers that, as the NHL announced Saturday afternoon, has drawn matching $2500 fines for Michael Del Zotto and Tomas Kopecky . The offenses? A crosscheck to the back of the head courtesy Del Zotto, followed by a blatant sucker punch to the side of the head courtesy Kopecky. Of course, I'm feeling like "courtesy" might not be the right word here. Maybe it's just me, but I sense very little courtesy. Now, I'm not the sheriff. And if Brendan Shanahan came to my door today and offered me the badge, I'd turn him down, because since a large portion of my currently job involves sitting in an office and reacting to his job, I don't think I'd enjoy a vocation trade. He's the last guy I'd want to Malkovich. If the two of us were ever Freaky-Friday'd, I'd kill myself. But seriously, the fact that...

Raffi Torres Deserves Suspension for Latest Cheap Shot, Just Don't Expect Him to Learn From It

Adam McQuaid put a beating on Raffi Torres, but not even the powerful right hand of the Bruins defenseman could beat any sense into the reckless Phoenix forward. On Wednesday, Torres delivered a dirty hit to the head of Bruins blueliner Andrew Ference late in the first period of Boston's 2-1 overtime win. Torres was given an elbowing minor on the play, but his real punishment...

Coyotes' Torres fined $2,500 for hit

Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres has been fined $2,500 by the NHL for a hit on Colorado Avalanche defenseman Jan Hejda. The hit came at 18:22 of the second period in Colorado's 3-2 over the Coyotes on Thursday night. Torres lowered his shoulder and appeared to hit Hejda on the side of the head. Hejda lay on the ice for about a minute before being helped to the locker room...

Torts: Kopecky Got What He Deserved

With just seven seconds to go in last night's game Florida's Tomas Kopecky sucker punched Michael Del Zotto in the face after the two battled in front of the net......To which Mike Rupp took exception to and decided to do this......and that is why the Rangers signed Rupp this summer. If you mess with the Rangers skill players you will have to deal with Rupp. And Torts'...

Raffi Torres Takes Out Jan Hejda With Second Head Shot in As Many Nights (Video)

Apparently Raffi Torres didn't learn his lesson. Just one night after Adam McQuaid turned him into a bloody mess after he took out Andrew Ference with a high elbow, Torres landed his second cheap, high hit against the Avalanche when he took out Jan Hejda. Hejda, who was falling to the ice after dishing out a long pass in his zone, took Torres' elbow right to the temple, as...

Aaron Musick: Time for the NHL to do something about Torres

When Brendan Shanahan took over as the director of player discipline, it was to cut down on boarding calls and hits to the head. There were even rules added for these kinds of hits, to try to curb the onslaught of concussions in the league. However, there is still one player that continues to make the same hits he did before the rules changed. That player is Raffi Torres. The...

Hockey Player’s Ugly X-Mas Sweater Features A Reindeer Threesome (Video)

HBO’s 24/7 series has had many great moments already this season as it follows the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers as they prepare for the Winter Classic, but in my estimation, the appearance in Episode 3 of the above sweater, worn by Rangers defenseman Michael DelZotto at the team’s “Ugly Sweater” holiday party, has [...]

Video- Raffi Torres Questionable Hit On Jan Hejda

No penalty on the play and I am not really sure why Hejda started going down before the hit.  Did he see Torres coming or was it just a fall?

Testy finish riles Florida Panthers in loss to Rangers

Tempers erupted in the final seconds of the Panthers’ loss to the Rangers, and forward Tomas Kopecky is likely to be suspended as a result.

Coyotes' Torres fined $2,500 for hit on Hejda

Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres has been fined $2,500 by the NHL for a hit on Colorado Avalanche defenseman Jan Hejda.

Avs’ Jones activated, should play tonight for Jiggy homecoming game; no suspension for Torres

ANAHEIM – Matt Duchene is out, but David Jones is back in. That’s the word I’m hearing, even though the Avs did not have a morning skate today here in sunny Southern California. Jones, out the last couple weeks with a groin pull, has been activated by the team and should be in the lineup for the New Year’s Eve tilt with the reeling but still dangerous Ducks. By the way, Jan...

Rangers’ defenseman Michael Del Zotto stepping up in the absence of Marc Staal

PHILADELPHIA — A year ago the Pittsburgh Penguins' Jordan Staal came back from injury just in time for the Winter Classic. This year, brother Marc likely won't be so lucky. Only recently cleared for contact after a lengthy battle with post-concussion syndrome, New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal will be ...
