[Photo Courtesy: Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports] The first period, though it did not have any scoring, was definitely exciting. The Flyers and Devils both created great shots to get quality chances. The period had hardly any stoppages in play, which resulted in a quick 20 minutes. Other than a penalty-kill on a Jakub Voracek penalty, the Flyers played a perfect first period. They led in shots on goal 9-to-6 as the game went into its first intermission. The Flyers headed out of the intermission with a lot of intensity. On a 3-on-1 break, Matt Read held the puck and looked for a pass to Wayne Simmonds but it was deflected and the Flyers could not even muster a shot on the rush. Ryan Carter, on the ensuing rush, received a pass Stephen Gionta and put it past Ilya Bryzgalov to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. The Flyers PK-unit went back to work after Brayden Schenn was sent to the sin bin. After a successful penalty the Flyers were out hustled and out rushed by the Devils offensive attack. Though no goals were recorded, Bryzgalov continued to make save after save, keeping the Flyers in the hockey game. At the end of the second period, the Flyers trailed the Devils in shot 20-16 and on the scoreboard 1-0. The third period began with a four-on-four for about two minutes until the Flyers went on the power play, which has been a strength for them this season. The power play did not go as planned, however, as the Flyers only could muster up one measly shot and one chance on future-Hall of Famer, Martin Brodeur. Matt D'Agostoni scored on a breakaway to give the Devils a 2-0 lead with 5:50 remaining in the game. That goal could likely end the Flyers season as the New York Rangers won 6-1 in their game tonight. Adam Henrique added on an empty net goal to give the Flyers fans more of a heartbreak. The Devils went on to win by a score of 3-0. The Flyers now have four games remaining but with the playoffs out of reach, the season is likely over for the 2013 Flyers.
