WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) -- Corey Perry took advantage of a defensive mistake to score the winner in the Anaheim Ducks' 3-2 victory over the Jets on Sunday night, when Teemu Selanne got a standing ovation in what could be his last visit to Winnipeg. Selanne, who is retiring after this season, began his NHL career with Winnipeg in 1992-93 by setting rookie records of 76 goals and 132 points. The Ducks won't return to Winnipeg unless the teams meet in the playoffs. Viktor Fasth made 15 saves for Anaheim, which also got goals from Mathieu Perreault and Andrew Cogliano. Andrew Ladd had a pair of goals for Winnipeg, Blake Wheeler assisted on both in his 375th NHL game and Ondrej Pavelec stopped 31 shots.

WATCH: Teemu Selanne gets standing ovation in Winnipeg

Winnipeg Jets fans haven’t forgotten 22-year-old Teemu Selanne, and they reminded him of that Sunday night. In what is likely his last game ever in Winnipeg, the now 43-year-old future Hall of Famer received a standing ovation from the fans who loved him 21 years ago. The “Finnish Flash” was drafted by the team in 1988 and made his professional debut in the fall of 1992. Selanne...

Peter Tessier: Selanne: The Prodigal Son Returns

Within the NHL there may be no other player as adored in a city as Teemu Selanne is in Winnipeg.  He is loved and remembered from a time he spent there many years ago.  The fact that at age 43 he is still playing hockey, and playing it well, is a testament with nothing to do with the city and fans of Winnipeg.   For most fans he was a player that should never have left...

Perreault scores at 4:55 of OT to lift Ducks 4-3

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Mathieu Perreault scored at 4:55 of overtime to give the Anaheim Ducks a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night. Perreault's game-winner came on a 2-on-1 break with Francois Beauchemin. He dumped the puck to a streaking Beauchemin, who gave it right back to Perreault, and the center flipped his shot past Niklas Backstrom to give the Ducks...

Steve Palumbo: Newest Ducks Already Feeling Right at Home

The Anaheim Ducks were blown out in their first game, They then followed that up with some last second heroics and then topped that with an emotional win the next night. Let's just say this start to the Ducks 20th anniversary season has been anything but ordinary. After back-to-back road wins against Minnesota and Winnipeg, Anaheim improved its overall record to 2-1-0 with...

Jets defenseman Zach Bogosian commits awful turnover for easy Ducks goal

The Winnipeg Jets were knotted at 2-2 with the Anaheim Ducks late in the third period when Jets defenseman Zach Bogosian made a horrible, horrible play with the puck.  There was no pressure on Bogosian and he tried to make a quick pass up ice while the Ducks changed and he whiffed on it.  The puck trickled out front of the net, as Bogosian fell trying to stop it, right to Ducks...

Peter Tessier: Duck Shot- Jets Give Anaheim Free Flight

In his return the ovation came. For thirty seconds the MTS faithful saluted their former hero from a team years ago as a tribute video played. However the story would not be about Selanne, at least if you care about the nuances and issues that face, or plague, the Winnipeg Jets. After two period the Jets were behind in shots 25-12 with the Ducks having their way in the offensive zone for the...

Ducks Redeem Themselves in 4-3 OT Victory in Minnesota

The Ducks needed to redeem themselves after an uninspiring 6-1 loss to start the season against Colorado.   What a difference a couple days make! A couple of practices and a new attitude merited positive results in Minnesota, a notoriously difficult building to play in.   The 4-3 overtime win was vastly different from Wednesday night's efforts. "Any headline...

Video- Bad Goal Of The Night

It's not always the goale who is responsible for the bad goal of the night. Zach Bogosian with a terrible turnover and before Ondrej Pavelec could blink, Corey Perry buries the 'thank you' goal.

Trouba ‘headhunter’ in attempted Hall hit?

Jacob Trouba was miffed when it was relayed to him that Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall suggested he was headhunting during a body checking attempt during the third period of Tuesday’s 5-4 victory. “I don’t know I didn’t even hit him. How is that headhunting?” said Trouba a rookie defenceman with the Winnipeg Jets. “It was a one-on-one from what I remember. I don’t...

Not enough support for Pavelec

Ondrej Pavelec likely wouldn't even consider it. He'll insist he's just doing his job stopping pucks -- many many pucks -- for the Winnipeg Jets. But if he were so inclined he could certainly build a darn good case for abandonment through the first three games of the young NHL season -- and especially so after Sunday night's 3-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks that left...

Epic NHL Giveaways

Ducks' Selanne set for one last visit to Winnipeg

Few NHL teams get the kind of fan support enjoyed by the Winnipeg Jets. On Sunday however the 15004 fans who will pack the MTS Centre will be there not only to root on their own team to say goodbye to perhaps the most popular athlete in the city's history but one who hasn't worn a Jets uniform in 17 years. Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne who set NHL rookie scoring records...

Ducks-Wild Preview

Along with avoiding another drama-free ending, Anaheim Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau will try to get a better performance out of his team in its second game. The Ducks, who will be without veteran forward Teemu Selanne, will seek to bounce back from a lopsided defeat Saturday night by continuing their recent success against the Minnesota Wild. Anaheim (0-1-0) was largely uncompetitive...
