Found April 12, 2013 on Diehardsport:
Florida Panthers defenseman Erik Gudbranson absolutely leveled Winnipeg Jets forward Bryan Little late in the 2nd period on Thursday night.  Gudbranson delivered a huge forearm hit to the face of Little and Little went down in pain immediately.  Gudbranson was ejected from the game and given a Match Penalty, which means the hit will be reviewed by the NHL automatically.  The definition of a Match Penalty from the NHL rulebook is here: 21.1 Match Penalty - A match penalty involves the suspension of a player for the balance of the game and the offender shall be ordered to the dressing room immediately. A match penalty shall be imposed on any player who deliberately attempts to injure or who deliberately injures an opponent in any manner. While I don’t think the hit was necessary clean, I think the reason Little got hurt was because of the huge size difference between the two.  Gudbranson is 6’5″ 210 lbs, and Little is only 5’11″ 185 lbs.  I don’t think Gudbranson will get suspended, but it wouldn’t shock me if he did.  Winnipeg went on to win the game Thursday night 7-2. Florida Panthers announcers finally lose their minds over brutal team

The Florida Panthers Fox Sports Florida announcers Steve Goldstein and Bill Lindsay appear to have finally lost their minds because of their brutal team.  On Thursday night the Panthers were losing to the Winnipeg Jets 7-2 and the Panthers inched closer to playoff elimination, all while the Jets fans started to do the wave.  Goldstein and Lindsay chose to mail it in for the last...

John Toperzer: Game Night: Pens look to continue hot stretch in Florida

Can Pens finish road trip with third straight win Saturday in Florida? A win Saturday night would give the Pittsburgh Penguins twice as many points as the Florida Panthers (64 to 32, respectively). Not surprisingly, three of the four defensemen with the worst plus-minus ratings are under the employ of Florida: Filip Kuba (- 16), Brian Campbell (- 19), and Erik Gudbranson (- 21). Pe...

Game 42: Penguins vs. Panthers Recap

Boring. Really boring game. But I suppose that was to be expected. There is literally nothing that is good about the Florida Panthers. They are the worst team in the east and arguably the worst team in the league. Combine that with a Pens team that played without their three best players and it equals…

Pens outmuscle Panthers in 3-1 victory

Before the start of the game, Evgeni Malkin was scratched with an upper body injury. The injury may have been sustained two nights before when Malkin took a huge hit into the boards. With the Penguins forced to play Florida without three of their top skill players, they turned to gritty forwards and punishing defense to grind out a 3-1 win, Saturday night.Pittsburgh outhit Florida...

Ian Esplen: Two Best Calder Candidates No One Is Talking About

Follow me on twitter @IanEsplen to chat hockey, sports and life in general anytime The other day, Ek made a case for Jonathan Huberdeau as the leading candidate to take home the Calder in a few months. While Huberdeau is very likely the guy to beat for the award, I couldn’t help but notice two players missing from his list. Jonas Brodin No one seems to really talk much about Brod...

Game 42: Penguins-Panthers Preview

The Pittsburgh Penguins are good. The Florida Panthers are bad. I could end this preview now and it would probably be sufficient to describe what is going to happen tonight. The brilliant folks who write the schedule for the NHL should probably stop giving Florida home games by about mid-season at this point. There will…

Matthew Barry: A Whopper of a Finish!

The last time the end of the season was this exciting I was watching Olli Jokinen take a shootout shot for the Rangers. If it went in, the Rangers likely make the 8th and final playoff spot. If he missed, the Flyers would sneak it. With Gaborik on the sidelines, the rental Olli missed and the Flyers made the playoffs and made it all the way to the finals. (At least how this old brain...
