I don’t remember the last time we checked in with Phoenix Coyotes enforcer Paul Bissonnette, but usually if someone mentions his name it’s either accompanied by dude/bro story for the ages or very attractive females. Alas, comrades, this is not one of those days. No, this time Bissonnette is only being mentioned because he posted a copy of a Twitter direct message conversation he had the other day with Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin. Granted, their conversation could have used a little more excitement, but Malkin’s “russia best” had Danger Guerrero and me chucking with delight yesterday as we rode horses on the beach. Their conversation gets even better, though, since I obtained a copy of the rest of their chat. Amazingly, it turns out that, much like me, they have very limited knowledge of Russia based on vague pop culture references.

Keeping Sidney Crosby Worth Any Price for Penguins Despite Injury, Insurance and Cap Concerns

Sometimes you have to go all in to win. The Penguins face such a situation now. With franchise centerpiece Sidney Crosby about to enter the final year of his current deal, the club is already working on a new agreement to keep Crosby in Pittsburgh for a long time. Reports over the weekend, most notably from Elliotte Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday, proposed that a...

Report: Sidney Crosby Expected to Get 10-Year Contract Extension

Sidney Crosby has been one of hockey’s most exciting players since he entered the league as the first overall pick in the 2005 NHL Draft. At the same time, he’s been the face of the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise. It looks like Penguins fans have their man for another decade. Crosby is expected to get a 10-year, $90 million contract extension, according to CBSSports.com. He is...

New deal for Crosby rumored to be 10 years, $90 million

Sidney Crosby may have a new contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins prior to the 2012-13 season. Rumors on Twitter (source) are reporting that Crosby may sign a new contract that would keep him with the Penguins for an additional 10 seasons. The same source believes that Crosby's cap hit would weigh in at $9 million a season, or in other words, be a 10-year, $90 million deal....

Pen's Sidney Crosby to get 10 year deal

The NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is probably doing cartwheels knowing his favorite players is now locked up with a long term deal with his favorite hockey team, it probably also means that the NHL on NBCSN will be all Penguins all of the time. Personally, I think this contract is a bit of a risk – based on Crosby’s concussion issues. Austin Pollack, NESN --- Sidney Crosby...

Some early odds for 2012-2013 season have Penguins as favorites

While the Los Angeles Kings are likely still trying to beat the champagne hangover from last night the sports betting world is already figuring out who it’s going to be next year.  And whether it’s a surprise to you or not, the Kings are not the heavy favorites, that  honor goes to the Penguins.  I don’t ever put too much stock in favorites because, I feel like more often...

Offseason Evaluation: Tomas Vokoun

As the 2011-12 season has come to a close, the time has come to evaluate what it meant for the Capitals, both as a team and as individuals.  As such, as the summer progresses, I will be writing a report card, or individual evaluation, for each player who played in 9 (~10%) of the team's games, or 4 playoff games. Next up is goaltender Tomas Vokoun, who finished his first season...

Potential UFA target: Michal Rozsival

Don’t laugh, don’t get angry, don’t ignore the rest of the post. I’m serious on this one. Michael Rozsival could be a good temporary solution to the defensive depth issues we saw during the Rangers playoff run this year. His name brings out the boo birds at MSG, and to be honest, it’s easy to see why. Many looked at his contract, that $5 million per year contract, and saw...

Vokoun a Perfect Fit for Penguins

At the end of the 2012 NHL playoffs, the Penguins finished 7th out of 16 in total goals despite playing just six games.  They trailed the Washington Capitals's total by three goals despite the fact that Washington played eight more games.  No, goals were not the problem for the Pittsburgh Penguins, this time.  Goaltending and defense, on the other hand, were major problems...

The HNIC experts discussed the status of Sidney Crosby contract negotiations.  Elliotte Friedman said looks like a ten year deal with an average salary of $9.5M. Also discussed was Jordan Staal’s situation, what is going on with John Davidson and Ondrej Pavelec may be headed to the KHL.
