Seguin Is Kind of a Big Deal It’s kind of strange seeing the Dallas Stars on the winning side of a trade recently but somehow they managed to do so today. The Stars were looking for a playmaking center to compliment Jamie Benn and they ended up with two after trading Loui Eriksson, Joe Morrow, Reilly Smith and Matt Fraser to the Bruins for Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverly and prospect Ryan Button. The Bruins needed to shed salary in order to re-sign Tuukka Rask and Patrice Bergeron. Somewhere in Toronto, Phil Kessel is smiling. Montreal Wins Daniel Briere They may have missed out on the Vincent Lecavalier sweepstakes, but the Montreal Canadiens were still able over pay for a slightly smaller recently bought out player in Daniel Briere. Briere and the Canadiens agreed to a two-year deal that will pay him $8 million. The Habs reportedly threw in a no-movement clause. That’s a lot for a player whose even-strength points-per-game has fallen from 0.69 to 0.46 to 0.29 over the past three seasons. Briere joins a frighteningly tiny Montreal team who already employees Brendan Gallagher (5’9″), Brian Gionta (5’7″) and David Desharnais (5’7″). Perhaps an Oompa Loompa line is in order. Daniel Alfredsson’s Not Sure He Wants To Be A Senator According to the Ottawa Sun, Daniel Alfredsson is undecided if he wants to play for the Senators or another team. Teams expected to be in on the Alfredsson sweepstakes are Boston, Detroit and San Jose. Boston may may have their choice between two aging superstars in Alfredsson and Jagr. Mikhail Grabovski’s Parting Shots Mikhail Grabovski had some interesting things to say after being bought out from the Toronto Maple Leafs. “I play in the [expletive] Russian KHL, I make lots of [expletive] points and what’s going to happen? He make me [expletive] play on the fourth line and he put me in the playoffs on the fourth line and third line again.” Grabovski totally seems like the kind of guy that’s cool with a break up. Classy. Admirable.
