Claude Giroux set the tone early, as he knocked Pittsburgh star Sidney Crosby on his butt, then scored a first period goal at 32 seconds in as the Flyers beat the Penguins, 5-1, to win the best of seven series four games to two.
In nearly unheard of fashion, the Penguins pulled Mark Andre Fluery with 3:30 left in the third period.
The Penguins got a break when the Flyers’ Erik Gustafsson shot the puck out of the arena and got a delay of game penalty shortly after Fluery was pulled.
The Penguins appeared to close to 5-2, with James Neal getting credit for the goal initially. But it was ruled that Neal ran Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov into the net, discrediting the goal.
Flyers fans yelled, “Na, na, na, na, hey, hey, goodbye” and “We Want Washington” as the closing minutes ticked off.
It was totally satisfying to see Crosby and Evgeni Malkin get knocked around and frustrated to get a good shot on goal.
