Tampa_bay_lightning_431c There is (way too early) afternoon hockey happening in Philadelphia on Saturday, as the Flyers take on the Ottawa Senators at the Wells Fargo Center. Ottawa defenseman Mike Lundin doesn’t have to worry about staying alert for the rest of the game. He’s taking a nap courtesy of the Flyers’ Harry Zolneirczyk. document.getElementById('wpcom-iframe-form-2fb52fc693ccf14b53c785b69c3043f8').submit(); Of course, there was a big scrap after that big shot to Lundin’s noggin. Philly’s Zac Rinaldo’s fought Kaspars Daugavins. Rinaldo threw more punches himself than these guys. Zolneirczyk got a 5-minute major and game misconduct for his hit. He also appears to leave his feet, which could mean more trouble for him next week. Lundin won’t return. NHL officials will automatically take a closer look at the play because of the game misconduct, tweets CSN Philly hockey writer (and friend) Sarah Baicker. The NHL will automatically review that hit because of the misconduct – my bet would be on a hearing and punishment for Zolnierczyk. — Sarah Baicker (@sbaickerCSN) March 2, 2013 The Flyers lead 2-0 heading toward the end of the second period. Here's two hockey players fighting...without throwing a single punch (Video)

Last weekend, a fight broke out in the North American Hockey League between Cornwall River Kings defenseman Francis Lessard and Sorel-Tracy HC Carvena forward Sébastien Laferrière, but ironically, neither player threw a single punch. Lessard and Laferrière were allowed to skate around for almost a full minute, circling each other while to lure the other player close enough...

Harry Zolnierczyk destroys Mike Lundin with huge hit

Harry Zolnierczyk destroys Mike Lundin with huge hit.Zolnierczyk was given a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct, while Mike Lundin has been diagnosed with a concussion. There is sure to be a lengthy suspension headed Harry Zolnierczyk's way, as a result of his actions on this play.I say, between three and five games is deserved.

The Worst Hockey Fight Ever

This would absolutely be the worst fight in the history of professional hockey…if a punch was actually thrown.  Since this was more like a display from figure skating’s doubles division, I’m not sure what to call this. This, eh, exhibition took place in the North American Hockey League between Francis Lessard of the Cornwall RiverKings and Sebastien Laferrier of the Sorel...

The Way It Is

Today the NHL announced a four game suspension to Flyers forward Harry Zolnierczyk for a hit on Ottawa Senator Mike Lundin. The hit was borderline as Zolnierczyk slightly left his feet at the last second to nail Lundin, who left the game with a concussion. Some Flyers fans are surprised with the length of the [...]

Travis Yost: GAMEDAY: Ottawa Will Soon Play on Saturday Mornings

Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter! -- The Ottawa Senators five-game win streak came to an end in Boston on Thursday night in overtime. Still, Paul MacLean's club has rattled off eleven of twelve possible points in their past six games, and are hoping to keep the good times rolling when they head to the Wells Fargo for a Saturday afternoon affair. A tall task awaits them...

Flyers Forward Harry Zolnierczyk Suspended Four Games for Hit on Senators Defenseman Mike Lundin (Video)

The Shanahammer has dropped again, and it will be costing Harry Zolnierczyk four games’ pay. That the number of games the Philadelphia Flyers forward has been suspended by NHL safety honcho Brendan Shanahan after a reckless hit on Senators defenseman Mike Lundin. Zolnierczyk left his feet to deliver a brutal hit on Lundin during Saturday’s game in Philadelphia, for which he...

Harry Zolnierczyk utterly destroys Mike Lundin on open-ice hit

Philadelphia Flyers forward Harry Zolnierczyk is no stranger to throwing questionable hits at his opponents.  On Wednesday, he was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for kneeing Washington Capitals forward Mathieu Perreault.  It was reviewed by Brendan Shanahan and determined he hit him in the thigh and not on the knee. On Saturday, Zolnierczyk leveled Ottawa Senators...

Dee Karl: No Sequester Talk with these Senators Game Day

Evgeni Nabokov will be in net today when the Isles face the Ottawa Senators. But if you thought anyone else would have been, you're foolish. The troubling thought is that John Tavares may not be playing this afternoon as he has been feeling ill since Friday. My personal opinion is -- if he's sick, don't let the kid play. He has a better chance of getting hurt if...

Travis Yost: GAMEDAY: More Afternoon Hockey on Long Island

Philly stays hot, downs Ottawa

Jakub Voracek and Wayne Simmonds had goals and Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 33 shots to help the Philadelphia Flyers defeat the Ottawa Senators 2-1 on Saturday. The win gave the Flyers a .500 record for the first time this season, at 11-11-1. Philadelphia has won five of its last seven games. Marc Methot scored for the Senators, who lost in regulation for the first time since Feb. 16...

Travis Yost: A Tough Loss on Long Island

Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter! -- The Ottawa Senators forced yet another game past sixty minutes of regulation courtesy of a late third-period equalizer from Patrick Wiercioch, but had no answer for a trio of skilled New York Islanders forwards in the shootout, dropping the game 3-2 in extra-time. Both Frans Nielsen and John Tavares beat Robin Leher in the skills competition...

Senators-Islanders Preview

The Ottawa Senators continue to struggle to score while the New York Islanders continue to let in too many goals. The Senators are out to avoid their first three-game slide Sunday when they face an Islanders team that is winless through three games of a seven-game homestand. Ottawa (12-7-3) is scoring 2.1 goals per game for one of the NHL's worst marks. The Senators finished...
