The Philadelphia Flyers unveiled their jersey for the 2012 Winter Classic in Philadelphia earlier today. The picture below is the official sweater, courtesy of NHL.com, and as you can see, they've went with a slightly deeper shade of orange, added a black stripe to the bottom and completely blacked out the shoulders.
I have to be completely honest here, and the Flyers are by far my most hated team in the NHL, but these jerseys aren't half bad. They give off that vintage look that I think the Winter Classic tries to encapsulate plus they are original. My hope is that the Rangers will take a similar approach with their Winter Classic jersey.
Speaking of which, according to Andrew Gross, the Rangers could unveil their design as soon as next week. Everything you've seen online and even at Madison Square Garden is not authentic. Every team has to have an identity. So far, the identity of the 2011-12 Philadelphia Flyers seems to be that of a club that rarely does anything halfway. When they come ready to work, they play at a very high level. When they play a clunker, it's absolutely horrid.
