The Flyers will look to build on their win over the Toronto Maple Leafs earlier this week as they take on another team from north of the border; the Montreal Canadiens. Goaltender Carey Price (.878 Save %, 3.13 GAA) and newcomer Eric Cole (1G, 1A, minus 4) have really struggled as the Canadiens are off to an abysmal 1-5-2 start this season. Their only win came against the Winnipeg Jets in their second game of the season, and they are currently on a 6-game losing streak that began almost two weeks ago on October 13th. The Flyers have beaten the Habs in their last three meetings, so they’re certainly hoping that both streaks continue tonight at the Bell Centre in downtown Montreal. The Flyers ended their losing skid on Monday night against the Maple Leafs at home, but suffered a bigger loss when Chris Pronger went down with an eye injury. Pronger will be out for 2-3 weeks, and the team is looking towards Matt Walker and Andreas Lilja to step up and make plays in the captain’s absenc...

Chris Pronger Takes Stick to the Face, Out 2-3 Weeks (Video)

ESPN - All Danny Briere could hear were the agonizing screams. Chris Pronger buried his face in his hands after taking a brutal blow to the outside of the right eye, fearful of the worst for his eyesight. Hunched over, Pronger skated straight to the bench, his hands over his eyes. "I knew he was in trouble and needed help," said Briere, who skated with Pronger to...

Pronger hurt in win over Maple Leafs

Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger left the game after taking a vicious stick to the face, leaving Philadelphia concerned over the health of their captain after a 4-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night. Pronger and Toronto's Mikhail Grabovski sprinted for a loose puck in the circle after a rebound off Flyers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky on Monday night. Grabovski slapped...

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: 10/25/11

The eye injury suffered by Chris Pronger last night was one of the scariest things I have ever seen. Even veteran hockey people in the pressbox -- who have seen and/or suffered some grisly injuries in their time -- were horrified by the thought of any worst-case scenario. Thank heavens, the early prognosis is about as good as can be expected under the circumstances. Pronger'...

Flyers' Pronger out after taking stick in the face

Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger left Philadelphia's game against Toronto after taking a high stick to the face.

More Than Meets the Eye

To me, there is no visor debate. It’s only a matter of time before visors are mandated in the NHL. The Chris Pronger injury will only expedite the process. What a lot of people don’t seem to understand is that the visor discussion goes well beyond a player’s personal choice. There will always be hockey players who don’t want to wear shields. For some...

Flyers Drop Slugfest To Winnipeg

After Pronger injury, some Flyers stubbornly hold out on visors

By his own admission, Ian Laperriere was too macho to wear a visor. Then he took a Paul Martin slap shot to the face during the 2010 playoffs and suffered a brain contusion and concussion. He valiantly returned to the Philadelphia Flyers in the Stanley Cup Final, wearing a visor and vowing he'd wear one for the rest of his career. That Ian Laperriere hasn't played another...

Canadiens beat Flyers to end 6-game skid

Carey Price made 21 saves for his 100th win and Max Pacioretty had two goals and an assist and the Montreal Canadiens ended a six-game losing streak with a 5-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night.

Habs on a two game roll

The Montreal Canadiens beat the Boston Bruins 2-1 on Thursday night, with Boston’s only goal coming off a misguided faceoff win by Tomas Plekanec (for those who have not seen it, he won the face-off clean…so clean it went right behind Carey Price). This coming after Wednesday’s 5-1 defeat of the Philadelphia Flyers. Quick hits from the game? Well, PK Subban and...

Jets-Flyers Preview

The Philadelphia Flyers' first game without defenseman Chris Pronger did not go well. The Winnipeg Jets would like the Flyers' second game without their captain to end the same way. Opening a season-high seven-game trip Thursday night, the Jets franchise goes for its fifth straight road win against Philadelphia, which is trying to rebound from its most lopsided defeat of...
