TAMPA, Fla. -- FOX Sports Florida will be featuring the Berkeley Prep-Tampa Catholic game on FOXSportsFlorida.com via Prep Zone, presented by Checkers. Dave Reynolds will call the game, alongside color commentator John Kaleo, and Roxanne Wilder will be reporting from the sidelines.
On Friday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m., Prep Zone heads to Hillsborough County for a District 3A-4 showdown between Tampa Catholic and Berkeley Prep.
The visiting Crusaders (5-1) are a perfect 2-0 in district play, powered by a defense that is surrendering just 12 points per game. Tampa Catholic boasts an outstanding group of linebackers, led by seniors T.J. Harrell and Tre Watson and junior Cody Endris. Senior quarterback Kyle Ploucher (66 percent completion rate, 945 yards, 11 touchdowns, seven interceptions) leads a balanced attack that has struggled to run the football this season. Senior offensive lineman Corey Martinez (Florida State commit) anchors the front.
The host Buccaneers (2-3) have dropped three straight games, two coming in district play by a combined five points. Berkeley has struggled to generate much offense, averaging less than 240 total yards per game. Junior quarterback Brad Mayes has some talented freshman skill players, including leading rusher Gordon Stetson and leading receiver Cade Weldon.
"We are looking forward to showcasing talented teams from the Tampa Bay area," says Stephen Grecsek of OUR TEAM. "Fans statewide and across the country will be treated to a great football match-up featuring two of Florida's premier schools. We'd like to give a special thank you to FOX Sports Florida for making the game available and to Checkers, once again, for their loyalty and sponsorship."

It’s common knowledge at this point that the Florida Panthers don’t exactly have the greatest fanbase in the NHL. It’s also safe to assume that tonight’s Panthers-Bruins game in Sunrise, Florida will be a little more exciting than usual considering Tim Thomas, former Vezina and Conn Smythe winner for the Bruins, will be in net for the Panthers and facing his former team for...
SUNRISE, Fla. -- For a game worth only two points in the standings, Tim Thomas wanted this win.
Maybe not as much as the victory which earned him a Stanley Cup.
But he still wanted one Thursday.
Moments after falling 3-2 to the Boston Bruins, his former team, since returning from a year-long sabbatical, the Florida Panthers netminder sat in his stall, holding back emotions...
Tim Thomas went through Florida Panthers practice at their practice rink and it appears that he might be ready to play Thursday night when his Panthers take on his old Bruins hockey club at the BB&T Center.
He's questionable for the game after tweaking his groin in the third game of the season for the Panthers and he didn't make the trip with the rest of the club to...
from George Richards of On Froze Pond,
New Panthers goalie Tim Thomas said he approached Thursday's game like any other. His shaking body in the moments after a hard-fought 3-2 loss to his former teammates belied Thomas' words.
This one stung.
"It hurts the way ended up,'' Thomas said minutes after Reilly Smith -- one of the few Bruins on the ice...
SUNRISE, Fla. -- Nick Bjugstad will never forget that night in April 2003.
The Minnesota Wild, his favorite team, were in the midst of a Game 7 overtime battle against the Colorado Avalanche, trying to capture their first playoff series victory.
Tucked away in bed on a school night, the 10-year-old Bjugstad listened intently for a sign. Anything to indicate an outcome.
Reilly Smith scored the game-winning goal with 59 seconds left in the third period and the Boston Bruins beat the Florida Panthers 3-2 on Thursday night.
Smith backhanded the puck into the net between the legs of Tim Thomas after a faceoff in the Panthers' zone. The goal spoiled Thomas' first game against his former team since joining the Panthers as a free agent.
The Bruins came they saw and they conquered Tim Thomas and the Florida Panthers.
Some of the suspense was taken out of the proceedings when the Bruins scored two early goals against the 39-year-old goaltender and a shoddy Florida defense but they also managed to tack on in the closing minute of the third period for a 3-2 victory at a quarter-filled BB&T Center.
5 things, 3 stars, postgame video, and highlights from Nashville's 4-3 victory over the Florida Panthers...
There were many times during his time with the Bruins that Tim Thomas stood on his head and bailed the team out on an off-night by playing out of his mind. It’s one of the reasons he was one of the best goalies in the NHL at one point.
The now ex-Bruin, who probably has pretty strong feelings about bailouts of a different kind, bailed out his former team once more Thursday night...
2 p.m.: It’s going to be a strange sight for the Bruins on Thursday night, as they’re set to take on a former teammate, a player who is largely responsible for one big shiny piece of jewelry they now have.
Thursday night in Sunrise, Fla., will not be a chance for the B’s to take thank Tim Thomas for anything, though.
The B’s will get their first look at the man who backboned...
With Tim Thomas officially the starter between the pipes for the Florida Panthers on Thursday, the Bruins will get a chance to go against a former teammate that they know well.
Don’t expect a mushy reunion, though, because the B’s are treating the game like business as usual. Head coach Claude Julien said that his squad has “turned the page” on the Thomas saga, and is focused...
For the first 59 minutes of Thursday night's game between the Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers, the story was how great Tim Thomas was playing against the team he won a Stanley Cup with in 2011. Then Reilly Smith stole the spotlight and the win. Smith scored with 59 seconds left in the third period to break a 2-2 tie and give the Bruins a much needed two points in the...
In a few hours, Tim Thomas will be in goal when the Bruins face off against the Florida Panthers. While unthinkable just a couple of seasons ago, he will be on the other side of the ice. Instead of putting up Vezina worthy numbers for the Bruins, he will be attempting to revive his career while facing down Tuukka Rask, [...]
